Personality & Traits

General Overview He has the air about him of an old sailing captain; authoritarian and honor-bound, but fatherly. He expects his officers and men to know their jobs and do them but he is not cruel. If one of them were unable to meet his high standards, Nicholas would look for a way to bring that person up above standard instead of scolding or reprimanding. However, if a reprimand becomes necessary Nicholas will carry out the letter of the law and insist his officers and men do likewise, then encourage the reprimanded individual to "do his duty" and overcome the problem that got him to that spot. Nicholas will never hold a bad mark against someone who is working hard to better themselves.

When science is concerned, Nicholas is enthusiastic. He is insatiably curious and will not miss an opportunity to expand Federation knowledge. His battle skills were learned the hard way - in the Dominion War. Nicholas will avoid combat whenever he can, but he is protective of his ship, his crew, and innocent civilians. If forced into combat he uses his scientific zeal to plot the best course of action and follow it.

Many of the rules he's chosen to live by were taught to him by his grandfather who was himself a prime example of an "old sea captain".
Strengths & Weaknesses His many years working as crew on a seagoing vessel give him a unique perspective into shipboard life and an ability many officers to not posses to understand the needs and feelings of the ordinary crew. Despite his experience, however, he sometimes lets his curiosity get the better of him.
Ambitions Nicholas is very vocal in his support of Starfleet's role in exploration and scientific endeavors. While he does not deny Starfleet's military role, he sees it as a secondary role and a necessary evil when dealing with a sometimes hostile universe. His experience in the Dominion War taught him that war is something best avoided.
Hobbies & Interests In addition to his love of anthropology and scientific endeavor, Nicholas is interested in archaic sailing ships and firearms, and model building.

Personal History Nicholas was born in Copernicus City on Earth's moon to Godfrey and Anna Hall on August 7th, 2341. His parents were both research scientists. Alexander Hall is his non-identical twin. They often argue, jokingly, about who was born first.

Growing up on the moon, Nicholas' only exposure to a natural biosphere was his annual visits to visit his grandfather on Earth where he worked on his grandfather's commercial fishing boat for 3 months out of the year. It was from his grandfather that Nicholas gained his love of ships and from his parents that he acquired his interest in science. Rather than being interested in laboratory research, however, Nicholas became consumed with a desire to learn about living biospheres and alien civilizations. Nicholas attended college on Earth where he earned a masters degree in xeno-biology and anthropology.

His first experience with Starfleet was an expedition to Ophiucus IV to study the nearly dead world's parallel evolution. Upon returning from the expedition a year later, Nicholas completed his doctoral degree and then applied to Starfleet Academy.

After graduation, Nicholas served for over 3 years as a science officer on board the U.S.S. Ranger. The Ranger was among the ships that participated in the Battle of Tyra in January of 2374. The bridge of the Ranger sustained a direct hit, killing half of the bridge crew including the commanding officer. Ensign Hall assisted the first officer in regaining control of the ship and took over the tactical station. The first officer sited Hall's quick thinking as pivotal in the ship's survival. After the battle Hall was promoted to Lieutenant J.G. and transferred to tactical.

Nicholas served the remainder of the war as the Ranger's tactical officer and was acting chief of security at the end of the war. However, Starfleet determined that Ranger's damage was beyond repair and the ship was decommissioned early in 2376.

After the war, Nicholas was assigned as chief security/tactical officer of the U.S.S Stockholm. His cross-career skills made him a valuable asset and when the first officer was transferred in 2379, Lieutenant Hall assumed that position.

Years passed he became an admiral at theh New Exploration Command on a station that was given to them an abandoned Ancient base built into an asteroid which he and his crew refurbished making it their new home.
