Personal History Azalin grew up in Trill’s capital city Leran Manev in the historic Old City Quarter, with its aged and varied architecture, a testament to bygone ages. There, she learned to watch people and more importantly, experience the joy of reading and of gardening.

It was through her mother, Lera, that Azalin grew to love and appreciate books. From historical, great literature, and science, to works of epic poetry.

Absorbing and dreaming, Azalin spent many hours wandering the beautiful glass and crystal Najana Library, where her mother worked. Although she spent a great deal of time also outdoors, or involved in her father's work, Azalin dreamed first of following in her mother’s footsteps.

As she grew older, the time spent helping her father, Enud, nurtured an even greater love for botany. From her father she shared the love of food and gardening, of helping life grow.

When she could, Azalin accompanied her father on his trips, both on and off Trill, to diagnose why and fix where nonnative plant life failed to flourish.

Her natural green thumb was the deciding factor for Azalin to decide which passion she would follow. She was tempted to study off world, having had a taste for the adventures beyond home, but in the end she felt working with her father would provide plenty of opportunities.

After her studies, on Trill, Azalin worked with her father for a couple of years as a botanist. During this time, she applied to the Trill Symbiosis Commission for joining with a Trill Symbiont, and became an initiate under the supervision of a field docent, a joined Trill who evaluates the prospective host's suitability for joining. Her application approved, she was placed on a list for joining.

Having always seen a wanderlust in her, one that just seemed to grow like the plants she worked with, and realizing she needed something more challenging than a civilian based career, her father eventually convinced her to apply to Starfleet Academy, following in the footsteps of her older brother. She had been skeptical at first, uncertain through her exam, but that quickly changed upon her arrival to the campus.

Azalin was truly in her element at Starfleet Academy, and thanked her father several times for his encouragement in the first week alone, sending both her parents pictures daily for a while. Still making friends easily, although intently focused on her studies, Azalin graduated within the top 10 percent of her class.

Her first assignment was on the USS Cousteau, a science vessel. Between regular first-contact follow up missions and first time planetary explorations, as a botanist, Azalin was always busy. After three years, she was promoted, offered the posting on another starship as the lead Biologist. At the same time she received her calling to be joined with a symbiont. Needing to make an important choice, she chose to return to Trill, where she was there for two weeks before receiving her assignment on Faltan Station. Although she was still adjusting to her symbiont, she decided to leave right away, not wanting to forfeit another great assignment.
