| Personal History | Born in 2353 aboard Starbase Upshur, Sam Braddock was a product of a broken environment. Throughout his life, he was forced to fend for himself aboard the station as his father was constantly deployed aboard various starships, leaving him behind with various fly by night conquests. As an average student, he managed to skate through his academics throughout high school and graduate. With few academic prospects after high school, Sam elected to enlist in the Starfleet Marine Corps in 2370. Arriving at Camp Basilone in Louisiana later that year, Sam threw himself into his training over the next year. Graduating later in 2370, now Private First Class Braddock selected the specialty of Intelligence Acquisition and Targeting- 1XA31 and proceeded to Starfleet Base Tereshkova on Luna for specialty training in long range reconnaissance and intelligence gathering. Completing specialty training in early 2372, now Lance Corporal Braddock proceeded to Joint Terminal Attack Controller School for three weeks and then was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines as a member of the Long Range Reconnaissance Platoon assigned to the Archanis Sector. During this action, the Battalion was cut off for nearly over a year and engaged Klingon forces in several ground and boarding engagements. During a major battle in defense of Starbase 206, Sam received a field promotion to Corporal and was took command of a squad in order to repel Klingon boarders from several critical areas. At the end of the conflict in mid-2373, Sam was awarded the Bronze Star with 'V' Device and Purple Heart for his service and ordered to attend the Corporals Course. Graduating later that year, Sam was then reassigned back to the Alpha Quadrant to gather perform intelligence gathering and counter-piracy operations against the Orion Syndicate in the lead up to the Dominion War. At the outbreak of the Dominion War, Corporal Braddock was reassigned aboard the USS Malinche as a Squad Leader for their Forward Interdiction and Support Teams and proceeded on multiple engagements in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants coordinating air and orbital strikes against enemy ground targets. Reassigned to a Marine Corps Strategic Operations Detachment as a Strike Planning Analyst in 2374, Sam was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and awarded the Marine Corps Commendation Medal- Second Award. It was during this time that his superiors noted both his combat record and intelligence, regularly advising him that his talents were being wasted as an enlisted man and ordered him to enroll in college courses. With his newfound spare time, Sam enrolled in the University of New York. Graduating in June of 2377 with a double major of Engineering and Military History, Sam applied for a commission. With his application granted, he departed for Officer Candidate School on Artegon II. Completing the course in December of that year, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and ordered to attend The Basic School. Graduating in 2378, Sam was then selected for the Marine Corps Strike Aviation Pipeline. Specializing in the Valkyrie Strike Fighter, Sam earned his wings after completing the pipeline in 2379 and reported to VMA-216 ‘Bull Dogs’ with the rank of First Lieutenant. As a junior pilot, Sam was considered by his superiors to be methodical in his flying but could become agitated in the cockpit during air to air engagements. In 2380, Sam became a Section Leader and the Squadron Operations Officer, gaining a qualification as the squadron's 'Shooter'. |
