Personal History Katlyn Monroe is a nurse in Starfleet, is the sole survivor from the destruction of the USS Churchill, who has recently been reassigned to the Faltan Station. The USS Churchill whilst on a routine patrol was struck and damaged by a series of gravitic mines, before attacked by unknown alien raiders who destroyed her. When the command was given to abandon the Churchill, Katlyn had been helping to load the injured aboard the escape pods in case the need to suddenly evacuate arose. She swiftly boarded a pod, largely filled with those severely wounded and Doctor Frank Higgins.

Their pod barely launched before the ship detonated in a fiery inferno, the resulting blast wave nearly destroying the pod and killing most aboard the escape pod. Katlyn by some miracle was surprisingly unhurt, though it took her a precious few minutes for her mind to recover from the effects of the detonation. Before she could begin to assist the injured or the dying, she had to fight to save the escape pod itself. This she eventually triumphed in, though by the time help reached the pod, most of the survivors had perished from their injuries, including Frank Higgins who had been out of his seat at the time of the detonation.

Besides Katy, precious few survived from the Churchill’s destruction and of those who did, they later died as a result of their injuries in spite of Starfleet’s best medical efforts. The loss of so many friends and people she called family hit the nurse incredibly hard, it was only through Starfleet’s psychiatric help and support that she was able to recover from the mental trauma and guilt caused by seeing so many friends died, whilst she still survived.

It was a long time before Nurse Monroe was once again cleared for duty. She does, late at night still question how come she survived when so many other people died. The ghosts and memories of that single dark day haunt’s to this day.

She is once more cleared for active duty, where she hopes to fulfill her role with care and determination. She is incredibly good with the sick and injured, her voice and manner a combination of soft and soothing. Katlyn still regularly visits the ship’s Councillor however in order to best help herself cope with everything which occurred still. Outside of the Councillor, Katy has not discussed what happened to the Churchill, some topics are too difficult to bring up to others. A lot of people lost their friends, family members and comrades when the ship went up in flames.

Katy can be quite quiet and to some outside of work she tends to come off as rather reserved. This is nothing personal against them, more the nurse is reluctant to form bonds outside of those she works with on a daily basis. She fears that if something were to happen to the crew of the station, she would be crushed by it. Monroe has a jet black, twisted sense of gallows humour, always one with a crude joke that many find wildly inappropriate. In a way, her humour has helped her to cope with the sheer amount of loss she has suffered. She is incredibly hard working, willing to do anything to help those in need. She can be relied upon like a stone wall and is a keen believer in Starfleet’s missions and goals. Katy is a poor sleeper, her dreams forever haunted by nightmares of a spinning pod, of blood, screams and the fiery explosion of marking the death of the Churchill.

Katlyn has a deep love of board games, willing to play anything or learn to play anything, that is except for tri dimensional chess which she used to play with her closest friend Frank Higson. She has not played the game since his untimely death nor has any wish to. Her other hobbies include learning the Klingon Language, sketches, meditation and fitness.

She does seem to prefer spending time alone or with the rest of the medical staff, rather than forming friendships with the rest of the crew. She is not against social interactions with others, merely shielding herself against the chances of anything terrible occurring against them. Yet paradoxically, she greatly enjoys hugs and off duty, the few close friends she has on the Faltan Station often find themselves having hugs, whether they wish to have one or not.
Service Record Katlyn Monroe is the sole Survivor of the USS Churchill, reassigned to Faltan Station after being cleared for active duty.
