Starting an Investigation

810 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Mission 3: Diplomacy, what’s that?
Location: Commanding Officer's Office

M'Mira was in a right nasty mood. Thinking about the Crystal Fruits and the Governor was enough to give anyone fits. The Governor had attacked Refelian, though she could not prove it, everyone knew it to be true. What was up with the Crystal Fruits was completely another matter. Attacking her friend, albeit a rather incompetent one was too much. She needed someone to look into this mess. Intelligence would have to do. She would not trust anyone external again.

Thus, she called to the one person in Intelligence that she knew and who had proven herself, at least to M'Mira. =^= Ensign Cosantiorrr, please rrreporrrt to the Commanding Officerrr's office immediately. =^=

Shannon looked up from the PADD she'd been bent over, =/\="Acknowledged"=/\=. She said trying to pull her mind out of the deep thought place she went when in full analyzing mode.

A few minutes later she tapped the door chime, a fresh PADD under her arm.

M'Mira purred, "Come in."

Consantior entered and stood at attention.

Once Consantior was inside, M'Mira gave her a big toothy grin. "Please, sit down, Ensign. I would like to discuss with you the status of the Station."

She nodded putting the PADD on her lap, "Yes Ma'am." Said a curious tone in her voice.

"I need not tell you what happened a few months back. Lieutenant Tendai was attacked by a Crrrystal Frrruit. Captain did nothing and then disappearrred." M'Mira walked around her desk and her arm swung wide demonstratively, her tail swishing like a metronome. Her left fist was clenched. "We arrre having staffing changes everrrywhere. I need someone that I can trrrust. Someone that has been thrrrough it all, like me."

Shannon sat up straighter at that. Some would use such terms to butter up someone they wanted help from. She knew in this case, however, it was genuinely meant. "I believe I understand Ma'am. What do you need me to do?". Her voice was efficient as always as she leveled her ever present PADD. She meant to be comforting and wasn't sure how she came off.

"Put the PADD away," M'Mira told her and then handed Cosanitor a box. "Take it. I cannot have a Chief of Intelligence at an Ensign rank."

First the first time, Shannon's polite mask completely slipped and she stood looking stunned. She put the PADD on a table and took the box carefully. Opening it was the black pip that signified a Lt. Jg. "Chief of Intelligence?" She echoed. Struggling to find her footing again. Just goes to show you even intelligence officers can be surprised.

"I do not believe I stutterrred," M'Mira purred pleased. "Now, I think that it is time that we have a talk about this station. I do not know how the Crrrystal Frrruits infiltrrrated it. I need you to find out what holes we have. I also want you to see if we have any Faltean sympathizerrrs herrre. Find out what they arrre up to, so we can plan."

Shannon nodded, "I can definitely do that. I will back track at least 90 days prior to the onset of that situation reviewing all records, computer data, actions and anything else we have. As for Sympathizers, I will start with the Persons of Note..." Anyone who stuck out as a possible concern was on file here. "...files but I will all review all files of anyone in vital positions and ripple outward to make sure no one is missed." She replied, her fist closing around the rank box. A part of her still pleased but she'd now locked on to the mission at hand so that held most of her focus.

"Therrre is also the prrroblem of ourrrr local goverrrnor, Union, and Rrreaya. We need to know what is going on with them and maybe even the Frrree Rrromulan movement."

Shannon nodded, "I can divide resources to do both giving weight to the governor et al if you feel that is the greater priority? I can review known information, will we have permission to bug the relevant persons and areas? If you can give me a methods permission I can work up a complete analysis plan." She said, by now putting the rank box in her pocket and making notes on the PADD. A methods permission were basically what she was and was not allowed to do in order to gather intel.

"If we could get into the capital, I might perrrmit you to bug. Howeverrr, we cannot. The goverrrrnorrr has prrrohibited Starrrfleet from enterrring the city. So, if you leave, we will have to disavow any knowledge of you doing anything. Do you underrrstand?"

Alora nodded somberly, "With your permission I will review what we have and get a preliminary report to you on an ops plan by say..." She considered the likely work load, "0600?"

"That would be wonderrrful," M'Mira purred.
