Mission: Mission 3.5 Faltan proudly welcomes ... The USS Kumari
Location: Hudson Quarters - Sick Bay

[ON:]

Tristian had headed home to have a check-in with his wife, Grace. She had left not feeling well. He was concerned, as he had been monitoring her and noticed lately that her pregnancy was showing early signs of nutrients deficiencies.

Having had been told by his Nurse in Sick Bay, over his comm that Grace had gone home to rest. He decided to cut short his work out in the Faltan Station gym.

Keying at their quarter's door, he let himself in. He had placed his backpack down on the carpet by the doorway. Calling out, "Grace." He did not want to wake her if she already was asleep.

Grace was sitting on the bed in the bedroom pretending all was well when she knew very well what was going on, her water had broken hours ago and she’d just pretended like it was any other day. “In here!”

"Grace." Hudson walked in the room.

As the door opened she gave her husband a concerned look. “Tristian ... I’m sorry! I should have said something.” She motioned him across to the bed. “My water broke the early hours of this morning, I’m in labour!!”

Tristian swallowed concern, yet keeping his composer. "It is ok." He said. His mind beginning to race. He immidiately walked across to kneel on the bed beside grace. He let his hands feel at her belly, and then downward towards her cervix. Indeed, her water was broken.

"How long Grace?" He asked. He started to look around his quarters. He had an emergency bag ready, just in case, for a situation like this to be prepared for their child.

“About err ...” Grace paused to try and hide the pain she was in but she knew as well as Tristian labour was one of the most painful natural processes there were. “Eight ... eight hours!” She swept her damp hair away from her face. “I just ...wanted to keep working, to try and keep my ... mind off it.”

Tristian had experience with many births. This being their own child, he was to do his best for Grace and the baby, no matter how early the premature birthing was. "Eight hours." He spoke astonished. He didn't have time to question why Grace had continued to stress herself, and not immediately call him.

Taking his tricorder out, he had begun to determine Grace's potential contractions, and the dilation of her. The tricorder showed that she was indeed beginning birth. "I'm going to give you a pain sedative, I need you to start slow and repeated breathing, like we practiced baby. Ok." He held on to Graces hand tightly. "It's going to be ok." He checked her blood pressure to see if there was any issues, she was indeed rising in pressure. He loaded the tricyclene dose of 33 mcg, and then gently applied it to her neck.

Tristian slipped a few pillows underneath graces behind, propping her up a bit on the bed, and keeping her back propped. Spreading her legs for a better look. He held her legs apart gently, yet firm. "Tell me if you feel my hands, he cupped for the uterine and scanned her.

“Of course I can feel your hands!” Grace unintentionally snapped before giving Tristian an apologetic look. “I’m sorry!! I was ... scared, I didn’t want ... to worry you!” She paused to concentrate on her breathing exercises, they’d practiced it over and over ready for their child’s birth as her time had gotten closer.

Hudson did not flinch. He knew she was in pain, scared and confused. He was her Doctor at this moment. "It's ok Grace. How is your pain level?" He scanned, and felt her belly once more, feeling that the child was now in place, head first in Graces birth canal. "I'm going to give you some hydrocortisone, luvoloxamine..." He stopped. She didn't need to know this, she was in pain.

He immediately gave her another sedative dosage, seeing her contractions begin to slow down, her breathing was good and strong. The baby would need to be induced soon. He was calculating how best to manage the current timings. Applying some amnaeotic gels, gently feeling for the 2 cm mark, the Childs head was resting just inside. "Your doing great Grace!" He encouraged her, he rubbed her thighs to massage, helping with her contractions. He linked his tricorder with the main sick bay.

"Tristian to Sick Bay, I'm needing an emergency beam in to bio bed suite one, surgical prep set up for child birthing. Lock on to my comm." He held close to grace as they then were both beamed directly in to sickbay, Tristian stepping off the level bed.

"Nurse Klein!" He called urgently. "Nurse Hyatt," He waived them over. "Cease what your doing, my Grace is in labour 8 hours, she is premature. I want echochardio on her, on the baby, prepare for a C-section in case, but I don't think we will need one."

Grace looked into her husband’s eyes as another contraction cane and went, she was squeezing his hand for dear life hoping she wasn’t hurting him.

"Thats it, keep breathing with me." He helped keep a rhythm with Grace, holding her hand. The other hand with an advanced tricorder now.

“How ... much longer?!” She gave Tristian a look that said just how much she wanted the whole labour part over with.

Tristian directed the nurses to place a neuro stabilizer, inducer, and birthing medications towards his Wife. Nurse Klein and Hyatt both hurried around the surgical bio bed addressing Grace. Tristian took the moment to attend his wife's pain and psychological impact of the birthing.

"It's not going to be much longer now hun, you're almost there the baby is in position, little Hudson is coming fast now!" He held on to Grace’s hand, he stood by her side, confidently watching the nurses do their thing. He was now in position to have to guide her.

Grace was rapidly losing her enthusiasm after having been in labour for so long, her hair was looking bedraggled due to the perspiration on her forehead and she was tired. “Please Tell me ... It’ll be soon!” She looked at her husband. “I’m ... tired Tristian!! I just ... want to rest!”

"I know Grace, I promise it is almost over. I'm right here, I'm not leaving." He soothed Grace rubbing her shoulders and helping beside her as the contractions now entered the final phase....

"Doctor, the baby is coming through." Nurse Hyatt addressed.

Tristian held his medical tricorder, having now taken the place of helping their newborn into the world. He had the unique aspect of welcoming their child.
"He is coming Grace, one more push! You can do it Grace, you've got this down now! He is almost here!!" He was excited, his face beaming, locking his eyes to Grace’s, seeing the painful pushes of her birthing come full through now.

Grace gave it all she had, gripping Tristian’s hand she finally relaxed back on the bed in relief as their son was finally born. As their son was gently placed on her chest she smiled as she cradled him, even as tears of joy rolled down her face. “Our son ...” She smiled proudly albeit tiredly at Tristian. ‘He’s amazing!!”

Hudson's eyes gleamed and glossed over, he was over the moon. Grace had done incredibly well. Her pregnancy of a Healthy Baby, given its months, he was astonished everything went well. Perhaps it had to do with her Betazoid heritage, he had heard of earlier births.

He smiled, looking at their newborn baby Boy. "Grace... " He smiled. "He looks like you!" He grinned. "He has your eyes!!" He stood by his Wife as she comforted their newborn in to the world.

The nurses beside Grace and Tristian, helping do the post-op birthing care.

Grace gently cradled their son. “We should give him a name ...” She paused. “Xander, do you like Xander?” She looked at Tristian to see what he thought.

Tristian was in a gaze, he was a father now. He felt his whole world start to change around him. "Xander." The words brought a smile, "That's perfect Grace. Xander." He moved to kiss Grace on her forehead, and be with his wife.
