Mission: Mission 6 - Candy Leads to Cavities
Location: Faltan Station
Timeline: MD01 - 1300

[ON:]

Ashford was heading down the main corridor on Deck 5 with a PADD in one hand and a fresh cup of coffee in the other. The station felt busy in that good way, crew moving with purpose, and he was on his way to the security offices to start meeting the team in person. He rounded the corner a little too fast, eyes still on the screen, and nearly walked right into the officer coming the other direction.

Their shoulders bumped, not hard but enough to make him pull up short. Coffee sloshed but stayed in the cup. "Whoa, sorry about that," he said with a warm laugh, stepping back and flashing an easy grin. "First day on Faltan and I'm already testing the hull integrity the old fashion way. My bad."

He caught the rank pips and the name tag in one quick look, then offered his free hand. "Theo Ashford, new Chief Ops. You must be Lieutenant Jg. Severijns. Saw the roster earlier and figured I'd run into security sooner or later, didn't expect it to be quite so literal."

He kept a relaxed, friendly smile, waiting to see how she'd take the accidental introduction.

"You should really keep your eyes on where you're going." Greta said a smile appeared on her lips. "Though, it made for an interesting introduction, my friends call me Greta, by the way."

"Greta." He reached forward and shook hands. "Yes. I should. My apologies. The station is so busy, so many hallways," he laughed a bit out of embarrassment.

"How long did it take you to adjust to this place?"

"I'm new here myself, so I'm still getting used to things." Greta said. "Its good to have family here, the Chief Science Officer is my cousin."

Theo chuckled softly, shifting the coffee cup to keep it from sloshing again. He gave her hand a firm shake, his easy grin still in place.

"Yeah, I really should. Sorry again, Greta. The station is busy, so many hallways." He laughed lightly, a bit embarrassed. "I'm still figuring out the layout myself. Been here less then a day, really. Takes time to get the rhythm of new place, especially one this size."

His steel gray eyes stayed friendly as he tilted his head slightly.

"Speaking of which... how does Security usually like to handle handoffs with Ops on internal sensor sweeps or patrol schedules? I'd like to get those aligned early so were not stepping on each other."

"I'm new here myself, you'd be better off talking to the Chief." Greta said.

Theo smiled. "Well then. That makes two of us. Mind if I take time to have a coffee with you. That is if you are not too busy... There is a good place I smelled fresh roast back there. If you like coffee of course." He gave a slight smile, happy to meet a new friend on Faltan Station.

"Coffee? sure." Greta said. "So, Theo, what brought you to the Station?" She asked.

When she agreed, he matched her pace, relaxed.

“Coffee sounds perfect. I requested the Chief Engineer post... wanted systems that actually matter this far out and a real chance to make a difference. What about you?”

"Starfleet is in my blood, I have an aunt who's a Starfleet Captain, two cousins, that is Jason and his sister Yvette, she's also in Security, a second cousin in Sciences, she's Jason's daughter, and even my grandfather was a Starfleet Engineer." She smiled. "I've always wanted to help people, so at the Academy, I majored in Security and minored in Operations."

Theo’s grin softened into something warmer as they walked toward the coffee scent.

“That’s impressive, Greta. Aunt a captain, cousins in Security and Sciences, grandfather an engineer... Starfleet really is in your blood. Makes sense you majored in Security with an Ops minor... helping people runs through both.”

He glanced over, eyes curious.

“Growing up around all that... did it feel like pressure, or just the natural path? And having your cousin as Chief Science Officer here... does that make the station feel more like home already?”

He lifted his cup slightly.

“Either way, glad the first person I nearly walked into has Ops in her toolkit. Should make working together a lot smoother.” Ashford gave a smile. He could see Greta becoming someone he could easily speak with.

"Its nice to have Jason here, I'm an only child, so my cousins filled in the gap, there are six of us in all. Yvette and I being the only two 'girls'." Greta said. "Jean-Pierre, Jason and Yvette's brother is a Police Inspector, Robert's a school teacher, and Louis is a vintner and owner of a large vineyard in his native Brittany."

"Theo, do you have any family in Starfleet?" She asked before taking a sip of her coffee.

Theo took a slow sip of his coffee, the easy grin still in place as he considered the question.

“Family in Starfleet… yeah, a few. My older brother Matthew’s still in the service… security side of things. Rest of the family’s more civilian. Mom and Dad stayed planetside. So it’s just me and him flying the colors these days.”

He glanced over at Greta with a warm little chuckle.

“Guess that makes your six cousins look like a whole fleet compared to my two-man operation. Must be nice having that many of your own on the same station.”

Theo shifted the cup in his hands, still relaxed.“So… six of you in all. That sounds like a lot of stories at family gatherings.”

"Indeed, the Beauvoirs are a rather rowdy clan." Greta replied.

Theo laughed quiet like, setting his coffee down a second.

“A rowdy clan huh… yeah that tracks with six of you. Must of been pure chaos growing up. Loud gatherings, stories overlapping, someone always arguing.”

He picked the cup back up and took a sip.

“My side was quieter… just me and Matthew mostly. We got into trouble too but nothing like a full Beauvoir invasion. Still… nice hearing that. Makes the station feel less new somehow.”

He leaned a bit against the wall, still easy.

“So with all that family in Starfleet… you ever think about going Ops full time? Or was security always the main thing for you?”

"I spent 3 years on the New Jersey as an Operations Officer." Greta said. "Until the Chief Security Officer 'poached' me for her department." She smiled. "Security was more fun."

They rounded the last corner in the station hall and the smell of the roasting hit first... small place, already half full... Theo stepped aside to let Greta in like a gentleman, coffee still in hand. Ready for a second like any Ops Officer.

“Three years Ops, then Security grabbed you...” Theo grunted a quiet laugh. “Yeah. Security’s louder! I do get that. You could teach me a few things.”

Theo then nodded at the counter...

“We’re here... grab a table." Theo smiled at Greta, happy to have a new friend. "What do you like, Greta?” He offered.

"I'll have a spicy chicken sandwich and black coffee." Greta said and when in search of a table.

Theo nodded. "Sounds good. I will get one myself..." He then sauntered to the Replicator Terminals... "Computer. Two specialties... Two spicy chicken sandwiches, two black coffees... As well..." He thought. "Two of your daily special desserts as well." Ashford thought, just in case Greta might want a snack as well.

The Replicator then energized the food amino acids and particles to life, swirling in to a finished product of two dishes, two side dishes, and two ceramic mugs of hot coffee. Taking the metal standard tray, Ashford then made his way to the table where Greta was now seated.

"I bring surprises... I thought you might want an after lunch desert. I asked for a surprise... And I got two apple pie slices.." He quipped. He took a seat with Greta.

"Apple pie, yum." Greta said with a smile. "Any whipped cream?" She asked.

"Of course there is! Now, let's eat!" Theo answered.
