Personality & Traits

General Overview A young Caitian from a revered and storied Starfleet family that has always served in one form or another, having seen combat in most major conflicts going back to the founding of the State of Texas and the founding of the Federation after the Earth-Romulan War. Stubbornly, Josiah’s life goal is to prove to his family that he is worthy of the name he was given, that of a revered figure in his family’s and Federation History.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths:

Combat Training - In addition to standard combat and weapons training, Josiah is a specialist in stealth and phaser pistol tactics. He has undertaken several covert ops for SI that has resulted in noticeable shifts in regional power dynamics that have secured the Federation from potential conflicts.

Book Smarts - Josiah enjoys reading literature from other cultures as they provide a window into others that can be used to influence events and people. Understanding of Cultures can lead to more out of the box ideas. It is also a means of escape from the harsh reality of his home life to which he lives everyday.

Weakness:

Traumatic Childhood: Josiah grew up the scorn of an overbearing family who did not tolerate any weakness or failures from their children. Josiah was the target of the brunt of his single mother’s over dominating ways to the point where Josiah’s confidence and self esteem has been nearly shot.

Smarts: Josiah has been described as too smart for his own good, and often that leads to him finding trouble when he doesn’t want it. Even in the enlightened Age of the Federation, some prejudices are hard to kill. He’s often ridiculed for his more feminine appearance and lack of a more typically male leaning interests and hobbies.

Poor Eyes: Josiah, like most McEntyre’s descended from the famed General Josiah McEntyre, was born with a severe allergy to Retinax V, a common medicine used to treat poor vision.

Therefore, he wears intelligence augmented glasses when not asleep. This has not affected his ability to serve, often wearing prescription glasses and sunglasses when on assignments.
Ambitions To try to prove to his family that he’s worthy of the name that he was given.

Personal History Josiah McEntrye was born in Dallas at the McEntyre Ranch on 22th of April in the late 2360s to Annaliese McEntyre and an unknown father who abandoned Annaliese when she was pregnant with him. The McEntyre’s being a military family with deep roots in Federation Service, dating back to before the Federation was founded. Josiah’s ancestors were MACO officers and Enlisted personnel. He does have family in the service today in both Starfleet Security and Medical Corps.

Growing up, Josiah was inspired by (and had yelled to him) his family’s legacy, something that was espoused about at length given their lineage and spent his childhood years learning proper discipline, weapons handling, and self-reliance, skills useful for a future officer of the Federation.

His mother, Annaliese, took most of her insecurities and poured it into making Josiah work harder than most, to live up to the legacy of the McEntyre family. This, more often than not, usually bordered on mental and psychological abuse as Josiah grew up and pushed back against the traditional mold of masculine presentation in the McEntyre line.

He worked hard in his studies, even to the point of being very socially awkward and isolated from his more traditional peers, mainly due to the inherent and sometimes stubbornly ingrained conservative nature of Texas and especially the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metroplex. More than a few times he would come home late and in tears from the harassment of his classmates.

Eventually, his mother grew fed up and applied her son for the Starfleet Academy Preparatory Program, which she used her family connections and Josiah’s high test scores to get him a spot and out of her house where he would no longer be her problem to manage, hoping for Starfleet to “work the gay” away.

Josiah had an interest in following his Uncles into Starfleet Security, but for Josiah it is to help others get out of the same cycle that he’s trapped in and show that he’s worthy of the weight of the legacy he’s inherited.

After three years in the preparatory program, he was admitted to Starfleet Academy on early admissions, as a legacy applicant in the Security Services program.

In his third year, he was selected from Starfleet Academy by Section 3 of Starfleet Intelligence to be sent on assignment with the agency. He was sent into the former Romulan Empire to take the temperature of the region since the destruction of Romulus and Remus. It was his first taste of Intelligence work and since 2387 he’s been assigned with SI Section 3 as one of the service’s field agents.
