| Personal History | Catrina Kali Tendai was born on Earth to Ursel & Russel Tendai. Both being being members of Starfleet, they hoped that she would follow in their path. But as schooling went on, the younger Catrina tended to keep clear of any children who talked about Starfleet, because it kept her parents away for extended periods of time. Too many rules she would say, I want to do my own thing. As she got older, Cat tended to keep to herself, having very few close friends. The reason behind this was a mystery, even after her parents attempted to have her talk to a counselor. Her schooling never suffered, so her parents dropped the matter. However, there was more happening, and she was hiding more than she should have been. During the summer between her freshman and sophomore years in high school, what Catrina had been hiding came into view very quickly. One night, even though she was on summer curfew, she did not make it back home. Typically she would have been home early, and her parents became worried. Getting in touch with the friends they knew she’d been with, a search party was formed. Cat was found barely alive in a field near the high school. She’d been beaten within an inch of her life and it was obvious that if she hadn’t been found, she would not have survived the night. Luckily, she was transported to Starfleet Medical after an emergency call from her father, who was there when she was found. It took nearly a week for her to wake up, and even though she found that she couldn’t move, it didn’t take that long for her to tell her parents everything that had happened. Her parents were the ones who informed her of all of the injuries and why it was she couldn’t move. Charges were quickly brought up on Catrina’s hidden boyfriend who’d been beating down her self esteem and making her think that things would happen if she ever told anyone what was going on. Unfortunately, her injuries were severe enough that she wasn’t able to leave her bed. Between back injuries and a life threatening pregnancy from being raped that had to be terminated to save her life, none of the Starfleet doctors wanted to take a chance. But this was when she finally realized something she enjoyed doing. She soon found an interest in fiddling with and fixing small things that she was given. She began to ask for things just for the purpose of taking them apart and putting them back together again. She was better at it than she ever thought, and knew that if she did ever get out of the bed and walk again, she would have a future in mind. After two months, and an additional two weeks of physical therapy, Catrina, though still weak and extremely shaken from what had happened, was able to go back home. Her ex-boyfriend had been convicted of attempted murder and would not see the light of day again. The rest of the her high school career was met with weekly counseling sessions and her friends keeping a close eye on her. It took the remaining three years for her self esteem to be even anywhere near where it needed to be. Her ex-boyfriend had done a number on her, but she was recovering. By the time it came to deciding what to do after high school, Cat had made up her mind, much to the delight of her parents. She decided on Starfleet, and went into engineering. All of the tinkering over the years, including after she was released from her two months at Starfleet Medical, made that the only thing that she wanted to do. Catrina’s time at Starfleet Academy was fairly uneventful. She was near the top of her class each time, and found the gym a place where she could let out any frustrations and get some strength back that she’d lost while she’d had a lowered self esteem. Unfortunately, there was one lingering consequence of what happened when she was 15. She began to become afraid whenever she started to find interest in anyone, or if they showed interest in her. Her memories of the attack would appear, and she would shy away or end up pushing someone away because she was afraid. With all of the counseling she’d gone through, she had hoped she would be past it. After her graduation, she stayed with some of her engineering friends for a few days while they awaited their assignments. Even though she was one of the top in her class when it came to her area of study, that didn’t mean she was going to be for sure assigned anywhere. She didn’t have much of a preference between stations or ships, but she didn’t want to be on Earth. Cat’s first assignment came in on the USS Bohr as an engineering officer. She knew it was a place to get her feet wet and gladly accepted. Most of the time, she was assigned to the night shift. However, even that had its own excitement and she earned the respect of her whole department as well as the command staff. She spent three years on board, being next in line for assistant chief before she decided she wanted a change of scenery. Her department chief was sad to see her go, but understood the decision. Returning to Earth, she decided to take a year and dive into some engine research. She was interested in the inner workings, beyond what the Academy taught. Although there was not a way to learn everything in a year, she felt satisfied about what she had found out and applied for another assignment. After waiting a few weeks, she got word that she had been assigned to Faltan Station and had been granted the Chief Engineer position. She hadn’t heard much about it the station, but did her best to get any information she could to read on her trip there. MEDICAL RECORD: With father being 100% human and mother being 50% Trill, medical circumstances have caused Catrina to have no abilities to support a symbiont. The standard Trill spots, though dim, are present. No other medical issues are present. *Addendum* During an attack when she was fifteen, Catrina was raped by who she thought was her boyfriend. Severe internal damage from the attack left her bedridden for two months. During the course of those two months, it was found that the rape caused Catrina to become pregnant at a very young age. The pregnancy was life threatening and was terminated, leaving Catrina at a 10% chance of ever being able to conceive again. If she does conceive, the pregnancy will be high risk.
