Mission: Mission 1: The Return to Faltan
Location: Captain’s Lounge, Command Deck, Faltan Station
Timeline: MD03 - 1430

After everyone had left the briefing, it left Refelian and Ria’z alone. “Thank you for staying behind, don’t panic you’re not in any trouble.” He said with a chuckle. “I like to meet my senior officers when they arrive. I’m sorry you were thrown into the deep end and going straight into a briefing with people you’ve never met before but I appreciate your input. Any way, I’m babbling. Captain Harry Refelian, a pleasure meet you, Lieutenant.” Harry said offering his hand for the Science Officer to shake.

Considering his arrival was a day earlier than expected, Mika smiled at what the Captain first said, and then accepted his offered hand with a firm and confident grip. "Doctor Mika Rai'z," he pleasantly re-introduced himself, preferring to be addressed by his academic title over his rank "Likewise, it's a pleasure to meet you, Sir. And Thank you."

“Please, take a seat.” Refelian said gesturing to the many free seats available. “So, do you prefer Doctor or Lieutenant?”

"Doctor," Mika replied, while taking a seat in a nearby chair. "I do appreciate my Starfleet rank, but I've been a Doctor of Science for a very long time, following in my parent's footsteps."

Harry smiled, “Ill try and remember that, Doctor. So what made it chose a posting like this? Interesting yes, but there must be more scientific postings out there?”

Mika nodded, returning his smile, "I suppose that's true..." and then paused briefly as he thought about it, and how to explain his reasons. "I've found myself needing to be planet-side, at least for a while. And from the look of things, there's plenty to do."

“That is true. The science team that were assigned here last time didn’t do much so the planet and system are there to investigate but any other work you wish to do. I believe the science department is well stocked with labs and toys...or at least it will be once it’s operational and all the equipment has arrived.” Harry said before a brief pause. “Your file says your from Baku, I’ve never met anyone from that region before. What made you leave, what I hear is, a paradise?”

"It was, what was outside that paradise," Mika replied, his smile leaving, his eyes leaving the Captain's for a short moment. Although he'd gotten use to the question, he was still reserved when it came to his past. "After the Ba'ku's initial experience with Starfleet, my eyes were opened to some realities; that while this amazing technology, similar to that of which my people had abandoned, was used out here, far greater was the need for it...and for the research. I needed to be a part of it."

Refelian nodded as he crossed his legs, “A valid reason for sure. How has your experience been with Starfleet? I remember reading about the Baku incident, it wasn’t our finest hour that’s for sure.”

"No, it wasn’t,” Mika had replied quietly, his mind having gone back into the past, to a peaceful time, with what had been a peaceful life, until that day he and his people had found themselves running desperately towards the caves in the mountains… Returning to the present, he said, “But it didn’t take us long to understand that those involved were a small group, and were not representing Starfleet as a whole, nor the whole of the Federation. With that said,” he continued thoughtfully, “I have to admit my time in Starfleet...hasn’t always been easy, but that is because of my own inner demons I've had to work out. I’ve been able to contribute and learn much in the process. It’s been a good few years, and I’m thankful for the experience.”

Harry listened to the Doctor and nodded his understanding. “Well I hope you have an enjoyable experience on Faltan Station, although you aren’t catching us at our best.” He said with a chuckle. “Once the Station is fully operational it should be a pleasant place to work. I run a casual but tight ship, do your work and I’ll leave you alone to explore other endeavour’s you may wish to explore. Any problems, come and speak to me or my first officer.” Refelian said. “I can only apologise on the behalf of Starfleet for the experience your people had with us, but as you say it was only a small group. As a larger entity we seek peaceful relations with those around us.”

Mika smiled appreciatively at what the Captain said. "Which is one of the primary reasons why we became a Federation member.”

“I’m glad you did. Being together is stronger than being alone. I just hope we can make the Faltan’s agree so we can have peace on this planet. I’d rather not upset the locals.” Refelian replied. “Is there anything you wish to ask me, Doctor?”

Mika nodded in understanding at what Horatio had first said. "Yes, there is," he answered, his brow furrowing a little. "Is there anything I need to know having to do with the station's current condition?"

Harry sighed, “She’s a work in progress at the moment. The majority of the Station was closed down and used for 18 months, some of the systems are being unwilling to work again properly. I am hopeful we’ll be up and running within a week or so. Unfortunately, the Science department is classed as non urgent at the moment, Medical and Engineering are our priorities at the moment.”

"That is understandable," Mika said as he thought about it. "I can always help with getting medical in shape. Some of our areas do cross over, and I understand how their equipment works."

“Excellent. I’m sure Doctor Aereen will appreciate any help you could offer. At the moment she is using the USS Minotaur as a make shift hospital.” Refelian said. “Any other questions I can, hopefully, answer for you?”

"No, Sir," Mika smiled, "but I'm sure more will come to me later."

“My door is always open, Doctor. If there is nothing else, then you are dismissed.” Refelian said with a warm smile.

With that, Mika rose out of his seat, replying, "Thank you, Sir,' and added sincerely, "it's been a real pleasure meeting you."

“And you.” Refelian replied before watching the new Chief Science Officer head out of his office door.
