Mission: Mission 1: The Return to Faltan
Location: Captain’s Lounge, Command Deck, Faltan Station
Timeline: MD04 - 1000

Despite the reports that Faltan Station was a mess, Telhas had decided to travel there immediately. He had been visiting his lands on Artaleirh, which was not that far away. It took him slightly less than two weeks to arrive and relieve the current representative. When they arrived in orbit, Subcommander Jaeihthe ir-V'Terox, the ship's commanding officer and candidate to his personal House Guards, had first cleared all formalities with Faltan's government.

Then the subcommander opened hailing frequencies to Faltan Station.

"Faltan Station, this is Subcommander Jaeihthe of the Imperial Senate Vessel Khaiell," the female stated, "I am transporting his Excellency, the honourable Senator Duke Telhas thu'S'Terion to take his post as ambassador. Please submit co-ordinates for transport."

Telhas stayed in the back of the bridge and watched Jaeihthe. A little less pomp and circumstance would have done as well, he thought. But at least this would make an impression and show how important Faltan was considered recently by the Star Empire. At least a senator as ambassador was rather rare.

”This is Faltan Station, we are ready to receive the Ambassador’s party. Sending coordinates now.” said the Human Ensign at Flight Operations.

"Thank you, Faltan Station. ISV Khaiell out," Jaeihthe replied, then looked at Telhas. "Mylord, ready for transport."

"Thank you, Subcommander. Direct transport from here, please, and inform my wife that she will be beamed planetside. I want to arrive together with her."

The subcommander nodded. "Yes, Mylord."

It took less then a minute before transport was initiated.

Down at Faltan Station, four figures materialized. There was Telhas, dressed in silky blue robes of a Vulcan duke, his ancient sword girded. Next to him was his wife Nevala, dressed in a green suit of modern Romulan cut, and two guards dressed in the navy blue uniform of Telhas' House Guards, armed with lirpas.

Captain Refelian was waiting at the transporter pad in Command and Control when they materialised. “Welcome to Faltan Station. I’m her Commanding Officer, Captain Horatio Refelian. Please, if you’d like to follow me to my office.” The Captain said as he pointed in the direction of his office.

"Of course," Telhas replied, "And allow me to introduce me and my company. I am Telhas t'Cheleb-Khor thu'S'Terion, Senator, Patrician, and Duke of Vulcan's Forge. My wife, Nevala e-T'Daran thu'S'Terion, Patrician, and Duchess of Vulcan's Forge. And two of my personal guards, Khev and Joran."

"And as you know our titles now," Nevala said with a charming smile, "You can forget them until we meet in utmost formality, should we ever do. I am Lady Nevala, and my husband is Lord Telhas. And personally I do not even care for the 'Lady' in ordinary conversation." She notices her husband's look of reproach, but decided to ignore it. 'We left enough of an impression, let's establish a good working relationship,' she thought clear enough for him to sense this thought.

Telhas read her thought. 'You are right, my Dearest,' he projected into her mind. "You may call me Telhas in ordinary meetings," he addressed Refalian.

“Of course.” Harry said with a nod as he lead the group into his office. “Please take a seat. Can I get you anything to drink?” He asked his guests.

"Water, please," Telhas replied as he settled in the offered chair.

"If possible, tea would be nice," Nevala replied, taking the seat next to Telhas, "Some aroma popular in the Federation maybe."

“Mint tea?” Refelian asked with a smile. “Quite a favourite on Earth.”

Nevala smiled. "Sounds good to me."

Harry replicated the drinks including a coffee for himself before heading over to where the Romulan guests had seated themselves placing their chosen drink in front of them before taking a seat himself.

"Captain," Telhas said as he leant forward, "If I may ask so bluntly, what is the current condition of this station? I have been warned that it may not be in the best shape, this is why I ask. And, more important to me, do you have enough space for the Romulan Embassy? My information is that Envoy Jakeela, my predecessor here, took residence in Faltan City. He was free to do so, but as we are to be a full scale embassy soon we probably need some more space. If you can provide either two decks in a residential building or allow us to construct our own building, I would be much obliged."

Refelian chuckled, “Faltan Station is undergoing some essential work. Starfleet has only just wanted to reopen the station so it was in a bit of a state when we arrived 3 days ago. We’ve made steady progress since then. I think another week or so and we’ll be fully operational.” Refelian said before taking a sip of his coffee. “As for your embassy we have set aside several areas within the station boundaries for the use of embassies. As you are the first ambassador to arrive you may choose your location.”

"Thank you, I will have a look at what is available," Telhas replied with a nod and took a sip of his water, "If you need any assistance, I can provide manpower for non-sensitive areas."

"Beyond that, if you allow me to assist I would be most happy," Nevala interfered before Refelian could answer, "I hold a degree in architecture and have served in the Romulan Corps of Engineers, so you are most welcome to ask for my assistance any time."

“Thank you, both. We may need some of that assistance. Getting the Station up and running is a slow process, any help you are able to give would be very much appreciated.” Refelian said with a smile. “Will your ship be staying in orbit until the embassy is constructed?”

"This would at least be helpful, as we would be lacking crew onboard otherwise," Telhas chuckled, "Unless it would be a problem to have the Khaiell around. From Faltan's government we have diplomatic clearance and no limitation on the time it can stay, although I do not want to exploit this more than necessary."

“If she were smaller I’d suggest having her land but as she would completely fill our landing pad it wouldn’t be worth having it.” Harry said with a smile. “I would say keep her in orbit until your embassy is completed then have her withdraw to Romulan space. The Faltan’s are being a bit problematic at the moment. We’re heading to the capital this afternoon for talks.”

"I wish you good luck with them. If I could,I would give you some advice," Telhas said smiling politely, "but you will soon find out that I am probably not the top diplomat. My presence here is merely for two reasons. Number one, I am a senator, and this gives some weight to this embassy, and number two, I have served for two years as exchange and liaison officer on a Starfleet vessel. This gives me a unique perspective which my peers deem an advantage."

“I’ll have to bear that in mind, Ambassador.” The Captain replied with a nod. “And thank you, I’m hopeful the meeting will go well. I don’t want to be aggravating the neighbours in the first week we move in.”

"Yes, a bad first impression is always a problem," Telhas agreed.

“Indeed.” Refelian agreed. “I’m hoping to avoid that at all costs.”

"If you allow, I would like to get back to the engineering and construction topic we discussed," Telhas said, "Just to get an agreement how we proceed."

“Of course, how can we help?” The Captain asked before taking a sip of his coffee.

"Would you mind if I would approach your Chief Engineering Officer and discuss if and how many of my crew can assist in getting this station fully operational, and where my crew is best employed," Telhas inquired, "Oh, and maybe it would also be helpful to get the name and where to find him or her."

"And I would like to contact your Chief Operations Officer to make sure how much energy and other resources are available for the embassy so I can design it optimally," Nevala added, "Plus someone from your science department to learn about the planetary flora so I can design a nice garden around the embassy. Unless this would interfere too much with the duties of your staff."

Harry picked up a padd which was on the table and began tapping away. “I’ll send a message to Commander Prescott and Commander M’Mira to get in contact at their earliest convenience. I suspect it’ll be after the meeting at the Faltan Capital later.”

Telhas bowed his head. "Thank you, Captain. Is there anything left we should talk about now? If not, then I and Lady Nevala would like to visit the embassy's site and plan the building. Maybe we also go hiking for a while and explore the surroundings. After all, this is a lovely place."

"And we appreciate your hospitality," Nevala added with a charming smile.

“Any time.” Harry said with a smile. “It’ll be a pleasure to host you at Faltan. If there’s nothing else I’ll let you settle in to your new surroundings.”

"Thank you, Captain," Nevala replied smiling, glancing at her husband to see if he wanted to add anything.

Telhas gave Refelian a slight nod. "Captain." It was sufficient etiquette for a good-bye, at least from his military background. With that, the two left the Captain's Lounge.
