Mission 5 - The Cold War Ends
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: MD02 - 0800
M'Mira was lounging in her Ready Room. Certainly, there was probably plenty to do but that was why she had staff. If necessary, of course, she could always jump in as a former Ops officer. But why?
That said, she was a bit concerned about her new XO. He seemed to have a fixation with Candy and station security. If he was not careful, he was going to upset the careful balance that ran at Faltan Station.
Needing advice, she tapped her commbadge and said, =^= Karrra, do you mind coming to my Rrready Rrroom? I should like to have a discussion of a sensitive nature. =^=
Kara was in her office when the call came from M’Mira, putting down the PaDD she was holding she tapped her comm badge. =^= I'll be right there Captain. =^=
It didn't take long before Kara was standing outside M’Mira’s office, tapping the chime Kara waited until she heard permission to enter. Walking in she offered a polite smile. “You wanted to see me Captain?”
M'Mira had her traditional white Russian with extra cream in her claws. "Please, sit. I need to talk to you and sorrrt out some thoughts."
Kara took a seat, making herself comfortable. “There’s also something I need to tell you Captain, but that can wait until after. What is it I can help you with?”
"I'm concerrrned with my new XO and the marrrines that we have taken on. There's no doubt that they are needed but they seem naive as to how life worrrks out herrre." She sighed heavily and put down her drink.
"They arrre rrratherrr focused on Candy Templeton. In fairrrness, she neverrr makes things easy but she's neverrr been a perrrmanent prrroblem and often assist us with what's going on back on Faltan. I am uncerrrtain on how to handle this tension."
Kara nodded. “Might I suggest a meeting to start with? Perhaps between all of us to see if we can smooth out tensions. You have your way of working, they have theirs, perhaps we should try and find middle ground?”
"While that is a rrreasonable suggestion, I do not think that is going to worrrk. I've already met prrrivately with him. I think he sees Candy as a thrrreat and I have no authorrrity overrr herrr."
Kara nodded. “I see, perhaps talking to Candy might be a good place to start then. That’s something I could do.”
"Prrrobably best. I should not be seen talking to herrr at this moment, I don't think."
Kara nodded. “I’ll also make a point of speaking to Colonel Patton, getting all sides of the story always helps.”
"Again, this is just my suspicions, but it would not hurt forrr you to get to know him better. We all should get to know ourrr marrrines betterrr. I would not brrring up my concerrrns."
Kara nodded. “There’s always been friction between fleet and marines, but the relationship can be worked out. It’s a case of learning to work together that’s all.” She offered a smile. “I’ll do my best to help with that.”
"I apprrreciate that, Karrra. I also would love to hearrr what you think of him as a perrrson. I know you only brrriefly got to see him in the brrriefing."
Kara nodded. “I’ll let you know once I’ve had the chance to make my own judgement.” She smiled warmly. “Ohh while I’m here I have something I need to inform you of.”
"Oh?" M'Mira asked, her tail perking up. "Tell me that it is good news."
“It is!” Kara nodded enthusiastically. “I’m pregnant, around 6 weeks according to the doctor.”
M'Mira popped up and hugged Kara. "I can't wait to meet the cub! Tell me what you need and you will have it! What does yourrr husband think of it all?"
“To be honest I haven’t had chance to tell him yet!” Kara grinned. “I plan to tell him as soon as I leave here.”
"You told me firrrst?!" M'Mira's eyes widened and she started to squeal happily before wrapping Kara in her arms. "That means we arrrre besties!"
Kara couldn’t help but grin at that one. “I think I’ll have some serious making up to do with Tomer, but it’ll be worth it.”
"That sorrrt of making up, I have not had in a verrry long time. It is not easy making time as a Captain and therrre just arrre not that many grrreat Caitian men in this arrrea of the univerrrse. At this rrrate, I'll neverrrr have kids and I'm going to end up having morrre gadgets than any being known."
“My mother always used to tell me that there would be a man out there for me, and I’d know when I found him.” Kara smiled. “You tend not to believe it, but it’s true. I knew the moment I met Tomer that he was the one I’d been waiting for. Maybe it’ll work that way for you too.”
"I'm in my forrrties, now. I wish I could believe. Therrre's only so much baby making time that I have left, despite us living forrr nearly two centurrries nowadays."
"Really?" Kara looked surprised. "For a Betazoid, we aren't considered in our prime until we reach 40. Though being half human makes some difference."
"Tell that to my parrrents."
Kara grinned. "Ohh that I understand, trust me!"
"You arrre also Trrrill, though. Also, you have a husband and cubs of yourrr own, with anotherrr on the way. I just have a station."
“Things might change in the future Captain, don't give up just yet.” Kara offered a warm smile.
"I will not," M'Mira responded half-heartedly. "So when are you getting me my mail orrrderrred husband?"
Kara couldn't help but grin at that comment. "Let's see what the future holds Captain; you may just get lucky one day."
"Well, that may be, but rrright now, I cannot even sniff one." The Caitian rose. "Well, I suppose that you should get to that husband of yourrrs to tell him the news, and then to Candy. Hopefully you can do something to assist us with herrr and the marrrines."
“I’ll try Captain that’s a promise” Kara smiled warmly. “I’ll see you later.”
