Mission:
Mission 5 - The Cold War Ends
Location: Chief Diplomatic Officer’s Office
Timeline: Current
With Aeryn back aboard Faltan, Kara had made a point of calling by the Diplomatic offices to check-in on the former First Officer. To learn that she was also Diplomatic Aide to Ambassador Telhas was a surprise, but then Aeryn was half Romulan.
Sitting in her office Aeryn was busty going over Diplomatic protocols and other important information, as well as checking in with Telhas’ people. Her job was two fold and she was aiming to do a good job.
“Knock, knock” Kara smiled as she arrived to find Aeryn’s door open.
“Ohh hi Kara” Aeryn offered a warm smile as she motioned Kara inside. “Ignore the stupid door, it’s jammed open I’m waiting on maintenance to come and look at it.”
“There’s always something isn’t there?” Kara smiled warmly. “Thought I’d see how you were getting on.”
“More like how I’m coping” Aeryn gave Kara a knowing look. “I’m fine Kara, I’ll admit it’s weird being back onboard in a different role after what happened, but I’m okay. Starfleet insisted I go through all the required Counselling after my kidnapping, and Ambassador Telhas insisted I had a clear head before saying I’d accept the position as his aide. My head has never been clearer.”
Kara nodded. “I understand your father had a hand in your rescue?”
Aeryn nodded. “He did, but it wasn’t without great sacrifice. It’s now known that he has a half breed daughter, which has cost him his position in the eyes of the Romulan people. As far as I know I’m the only half Romulan there is. I’m just grateful he was willing to help me.”
“I can’t imagine how difficult it must be stuck between Romulan heritage and Starfleet commitment.” Kara looked at Aeryn curiously.
“Well let’s just say I didn’t think Starfleet would want someone in contact with the Romulans working as First Officer of a station. I chose to take the position I have now, it affords me some leeway.”
“Well if there’s anything I can do to help, you always know where to find me.” Kara smiled warmly. “I’ll be taking maternity leave again in another 8 or so months time.”
“Seriously!? You’re pregnant!?” Aeryn grinned as she walked over offering Kara a brief hug. “Congratulations!”
“Thank you, we weren’t planning it just yet but it’s not unwelcome news.” Kara grinned. “Tomer will be watching out for me more than he usually does from here on in, he’s very protective.”
“You’re lucky, he takes care of you.” Aeryn offered a melancholy smile. “I wish I had someone who did the same for me.”
Kara offered an understanding smile. “Give it time Aeryn, you never know someone special might be out there waiting for you.”
“I can but hope!” Aeryn smiled. “That’s if I can find a Mr Right who doesn’t mind my being half Romulan.”
“The right man won’t care about your heritage, he’ll love you for who you are without prejudice.”
Aeryn nodded. “I certainly hope you’re right Kara.”
“Anyway I should get going” Kara turned to leave. “My door is always open in you need anything.”
“I know” Aeryn smiled warmly. “Likewise.”
Nodding Kara headed on her way, she was glad Aeryn was back and seemed none the worse for her ordeal.
