Mission 1: The Return to Faltan
Location: JAG Office
Timeline: MD05 1315 - Following "Chasing Their Tails"
Ethan entered the JAG offices for the first time, having been informed they were up and running shortly following his meeting with the XO and 2XO. The terrified Ensign who was directing a few ops crewman as they unloaded equipment and got things sorted. "Colonel, I made sure your office was the first thing set up. Your terminal is up and running with station computer and network access ready."
"Thank you Ensign." He said as he passed the open bullpen like area and entered at the door 'LTCOL E. ST CLAIR, JAGC - STAFF JUDGE ADVOCATE.' Taking a seat behind the desk he accessed the communication system and opened a channel to Faltan City.
”This is Eedi Oaju of the Faltan Judicial Structure, how may I be of service?” The Faltanian replied once his image popped up on the screen.
"Hello, I'm Ethan St Clair." The JAG Officer said, purposely leaving out his rank in a hope of coming across less threatening. "I'm inquiring into the investigation of the assassination of the Governor. As you may be aware, we are being accused of this and we are hoping to pursue a diplomatic legal solution to this. To be blunt we're not getting much traction with the higher ups."
“We’ve been told not to deal with Starfleet as this investigation involves you at the highest level.” Oaju said before sighing. “However, I can see you are a man of honour, I shall try and assist as much as our law allows. I should warn you that assistance won’t be very much.”
"Thank you, I hope you can understand that if one of your people was accused of killing our Commanding Officer or an Ambassador you would like to at least be able to observe the proceedings, and quite likely you would wish to be actively involved in the investigation as we are." St Clair replied. "Have there been any developments so far?"
“Of course, justice would fall apart.” Oaju replied. ”As for your query, officially there has been no further developments on the investigation of the shooting of your Commanding Officer. The investigation into the death of our Governor has solely pointed the blame at Starfleet with conclusive evidence.”
"Are they even investigating the incident further? Even if it were a member of Starfleet should there not be an investigation to determine who to hold responsible? We would be happy to assist, provide forensic investigative support, with all information and analysis shared of course." St Clair said.
”Generally, yes it would be investigated at length but it seems my people’s annoyance with yours has blinded them to this. They are quite happy to point the finger at Starfleet.” Oaju paused to think. Although you’d think they’d be pushing to find the Starfleet shooter yet they are not.”
Ethan ran his hand over his face. "Is there anyway your agency would be able to push the issue, our understanding is that your agency has a fair bit of sway in public opinion."
The Faltian laughed, ”I’m not sure what you’ve heard but we only sway public opinion when it suits the Government. As for pushing for an investigation that would be suicide from my point of view.” He said before pausing for a moment. “Can you prove Starfleet was involved from your end?”
"We can providing our sensor data from the time of the incident, it will verify that all our personnel are accounted for on base. Life sign readings indicate there were no non-Faltan life signs in the area of the government centre. Your own people should be able to verify the authenticity of these records." St Clair offered.
”Send me this information and I’ll see if I can use it to open the investigation from this end.” Oaju replied. ”This whole situation stinks, from a legal point of view if we have a killer in our midst then the people need to know and the government need to deal with it.”
"Thank you, I'm transmitting the information now. Please keep me apprised of any developments, and of any other assistance I can provide." St Clair replied.
”It may take some time but I will contact you. Oaju our.”
