Mission 1: The Return to Faltan
Location: Tesyn village, Faltan
Timeline: MD09 - 0700
The sun was rising above the horizon and the people of the village of Tesyn were starting their daily business. Only three had experienced the god of anger's paladin the last evening. So nobody could even imagine what expected them as a cloaked figure came out of the nearby desert. At first it seemed that the figure was a wanderer, but then, when the person got closer, suddenly wings of flames appeared on the figure's back. Those who spotted the supernatural entity reacted differently. Some ran back into the village, screaming in panic. Others immediately fell to their knees and started to pray, as it was obvious to them this had to be a god or at least an angel, and two or three did not move at all, until they felt a force on their mind pushing them onto their knees.
Telhas was satisfied with the result of his illusion. Whomever spotted him would see the fiery wings, unless one was a strong telepath or blind. He continued to move into the village and see the same reactions of most of the people. Fear, panic, faithful subordination. Some doubted what they saw and he had to force them on her knees by the pure power of his will, but in the end, they all were on their knees. Confident he looked around. Then, a man approached him, fell on his knees and bowed deeply, so deep that he almost had his face in the dust. "Palad... pa... pa... of god of anger!" the man whimpered. It was the one whom Telhas had rewarded with latinum the last evening.
"So you remember me," Telhas said and made his voice echo in everyone's head. "Good for you." Then he turned to the crowd. "You are weak. This is why you bow before me. But you are also clever. Otherwise you would not bow." He sensed someone drawing a weapon. He immediately flooded that person with pain. The young man twitched, but the pain was too much to even cry. After a few minutes, he passed out. "Is there anyone else who wants to draw a weapon? No? Good." Telhas let the illusion of his wings fade, he needed his focus for the control of everyone. "Now tell me about Sacred Bones. Anyone?"
Nobody spoke up. Unfortunately, Telhas could not sense their emotions. But he could read their thoughts. They were so much on the surface that it was easy. "Sacred Bones will kill us if we say something." "I won't mess up with those priests." "Better face his wrath than theirs." And more such thoughts. They were afraid, more of Sacred Bones than of him. For a moment he thought if he should change it. He could have them all whimper in pain. But then a teenage girl rose pointed to a building. It looked slightly representative, maybe a kind of temple.
He slowly went to the building and threw the double door open with full force. I really need to understand how that telekinesis thing works, I cannot just keep throwing doors open with my hands. It kills the effect. He could see a priest in a purple mantel kneeling in front of altar. The priest rose to his feet and turned to him. Very interesting. He does not fall on his knees before me. He is strong. I wonder how strong-willed he is. Telhas released the people from his telepathic grip. Instead, he focused solely on the priest. He sent the illusion to have fiery wings again. The priest made a step back. This was good.
"Who are you? Or what?" the priest asked.
"I am the paladin of the God of Anger," Telhas replied calmly.
"There is no such god!" the priest said sternly.
Telhas smirked. "There is so much aggression on this planet. This caught His interest. He ignored your planet before, but now... well now He is here, and he sends me to see who you are."
"Blasphemy!" the priest cried.
"Really?" Telhas asked and added the image of the interior of the church burning right and left to him. He walked closer to the priest and to him it would look as if the fire would follow Telhas.
The priest grabbed an item from the altar and held it against Telhas. "Leave, demon!"
Telhas laughed as he continued walking to the priest. "I am no demon. And it seems your god is weak, and mine is strong." When he reached the priest he took the item out of his hand, making sure that his hand would feel like burning for the man.
The priest withdrew his hand and screamed, his eyes widened. He wanted to turn to the altar to pray to his gods, but he could not move. He felt an urge to fall on his knees and bow before this creature of hell, but he resisted.
Very well, no mercy, Telhas thought and grabbed the priest's head with both hands. The man screamed in pain as the touch felt like fire, but Telhas did not care. It was just what he wanted the man to feel. And now he was telepathically strongest. Whatever he could achieve with ranged telepathy, once he touched his target there was not much way to resist. He could have searched for information on Nevala now, but he forgot about that. Instead, he scrambled the priest's mind at first, destroying the connections between all the pieces of information. This made it easier to start the second phase. He deleted all information in priest's brain. Playing as a child with friends - forgotten. Mother taking care of bruises - forgotten. First love - forgotten. Ordination to the priesthood - forgotten. His own name - forgotten... it continued like that for a while.
Telhas noticed some of the people entering the church, but they were too afraid to get any closer than just a step into the building. So he continued. How to use a spoon - forgotten. How to dress - forgotten. How to walk - forgotten... As he had finished the job, Telhas let loose of the priest's head. The cleric fell to the side, unable to remember how to use his arms to prevent this. Slobber dropped from the corner of his mouth. But he still breathed and all primitive functions of his body worked. Only everything he ever learned or experienced in his life was deleted from his brain.
Telhas went to the double doors. The people immediately gave way. "This is what happens to those who are blasphemous to my God! Remember this!" As he walked the Tesyn's main street, the people fell on their knees and bowed. This time, he did not need to force them into it. They all were too afraid of him. But he also sensed some thoughts of sympathy. It seems they preferred him over this Sacred Bones sect. Some even seemed to hope he was here to relieve them of Sacred Bones. He would do nothing alike. If they were too weak to fight those priests, they deserved it to suffer.
He continued to walk back the way he came, back into the desert. He sensed some people following him, but they became less until he was alone again.
