Mission 1: The Return to Faltan
Location: Chief Engineers Office
Timeline: MD03 - 1600
Mint leaned against her desk reading the latest reports from OPs and her Engineering teams. Things weren't going as smoothly as she had hoped. Every time they got one system up and running, another would begin to act up. She felt as though someone was toying with her. She didn't have time to address this feeling, there was simply too much left to do. As it stood, she still needed to get the rest of the department head's offices up and running, and key systems of the station needed calibrating or restoration. This is why she'd called her engineers into her office in small groups, assigning and reassigning them where they needed to go.
"This would be so much easier if my station wide display would work," she muttered just as the door chime went off deafeningly loud in her small office. "Come in," she rubbed her ears as the two summoned officers came in. "Ah, perfect timing! Lieutenant Kahala and Ensign Turner, correct?"
Connor came in and immediately spied the Commander. His face started to flush and his heartbeat sped up. This is not fair. Why are the Commander and Lieutenant so sexy? How am I supposed to work in this sort of environment? Having realized that he was lost in his own thoughts and that Lieutenant Kahala had already moved ahead, Connor shuffled into the room. He kept his eyes fixated on the floor as he answered, "Um, yes, um, Commander. I am, uh, Ensign Connor Turner, um, ma'am." He gave an awkward salute and tried not to faint or run, both of which his instincts were begging him to do.
After having glanced over at him quickly, Kakie had to force herself not to smile more than politely. "Lieutenant junior grade Kakie Kahala, Commander. I only just arrived about twenty minutes ago, and as your new Damage Control specialist, I am more than ready to get to work."
"Well then, welcome to Faltan Station. We have plenty of work to do," Mint chuckled, keeping an eye on Turner. "As you can see, the station's been derelict for quite some time. We have been working overtime to get things cleaned up so we can repair everything. You may be assigned tasks that do not fall within your specialty, simply due to the sheer volume of work." Mint picked up two PADDs from the desk and held them out to Kahala and Turner. "These contain the schematics of the station and your team assignments. I know you're both lower rank, but I am assigning you to head teams of your own because you're both more experienced than your teams.
Turner, your team's priority is the shared Ops and Engineering hub's control room. We need that main display of our systems up and running like yesterday. There is another team assigned there doing cleanup and replacing any damaged structures. Your team is to focus on getting those displays, and associated systems, up and running," she watched Turner as she spoke, still amused that he was seemingly scared of her.
Connor nearly fainted when he heard that he was going to be heading up a team. Worse, it meant that he was forced to look at super attractive Commander, which only forced him to blush. Thank whatever deity existed that she was probably too old for her to be interested in him, which made him feel slightly more reassured. "Ops...Engineering....Screen displays.... Um, uh, and I am to lead? Um, OK. Yes, ma'am or is it, um, sir?" Why did I ask that question? That means that I will have to talk to her again! What were you thinking, Connor? Get out! Get out! "And, um, who, um, well, um, should I be, um, looking for?" He gingerly took the PADD away from Mint, feeling extremely hot under the collar.
Mint stifled her laughter at poor Turner's expense. The kid was a nervous wreck. She wasn't sure why, but he was going to faint if this went on much longer. "Your team consists of Ensigns Amelia Gregson, Jacob French, Bethany Secord, and Henry Duke. They are waiting for you in Ops. Also, it's ma'am, but call me either Commander or Mint."
"Yes, ma'am, er Commander, er, uh, Commander Mint," he replied trying to stand straight. "I should head to Ops, then, shouldn't I, um, ma'am, er, Commander Mint?" He tried looking into her eyes but could not lift his head that high without blushing furiously and turning away.
"In a moment," she said, trying hard to keep the smile off her face. Mint then turned her attention to Kahala. "Kahala, your team is assigned to the Command hub. The main priority for you there is the Intelligence floor. Speak with the Intelligence team to decide what section takes precedence for them. Oh, and your team consists of Ensigns Frank Nathan, John Deroache, Hannah Oliver, and Damien Daniels."
“Understood,” Kakie said with confidence, having glanced over her PADD while feeling amused over Connor. “Should I assume we've already received our security clearance to work there?”
"Yes," Mint nodded. "I have ensured your team has proper clearance. Though I'm informed no high clearance information is on our servers as of yet. You will have Intelligence officers hovering about though, making sure you don't accidentally stumble upon anything sensitive." Mint smiled reassuringly at both of her engineers. "I have faith in both of you, don't let little things get in the way of the big picture. When you're finished with these assignments, come back to see me for your next task. Now, before you go, do either of you have any questions?"
"Um, uh, no, Commander Mint." Connor gulped heavily as he averted his gaze from Mint's eyes. "So, I can, um, go now? Dismissed?"
Kakie could barely contain her amusement. He was so shy, yet it was cute. "No, Sir," she smiled.
"Yes, you may go now," Mint's voice suggested she was about to laugh. "Dismissed."
Nobody had to tell Connor twice. He turned around and both women could audibly hear him exhale as he walked at a brisk pace out of the room.
