Mission: Mission 3: Diplomacy, what’s that?
Location: Sickbay

{ON}

Having read through a pile of personnel files Kara was taking a stroll to stretch her legs. She paused outside of Sickbay, so far she hadn't been in for her boarding medical but she was due a prenatal check up. Deciding to kill the proverbial 'two birds with one stone' she stepped inside and looked around.

Tristian was seated at his desk, playing with a baseball. He tossed it up and down each time a little higher to the ceiling bulkhead above until he noticed a visitor enter the main area of the sickbay.

“How can I help you? I’m Doctor Hudson. Looks like your pregnant, ah, you must be Lieutenant JG Quinn-Chaim.”

Kara nodded. "I am indeed, please feel free to call me Kara." She smiled warmly. "I thought I'd best drop by and get my prenatal care sorted, I am due for my latest appointment."

"My my, look at your belly!" Tristian smiled brightly. There was nothing more beautiful than seeing a pregnant woman in all her glory. The childbearing human female anatomy was a symphony of hormones and the like.

"I'm currently just over five months. I can't say I've got any complaints. this little man is considerably active!" She grinned as she rested her hand on her stomach.

"Five months, I could have spotted that." He rubbed his chin. He placed his hands on their side of Kara's chest. "If you don't mind, Kara. " He then pulled out his medical tricorder, wanting to see what the baby was doing. This was Kara's latest check-up. However, Hudson was becoming acquainted with the newborn.

"My, my. The baby is doing well. He is at his most active for around five months. He is trying out his new limbs and strong spine in the womb." He checked with his tricorder. "Are you experiencing any heartburn? Any discharge, mammaries, or otherwise?" He questioned. He was a Doctor, and he didn't care about any details of how small. He would keep confidentiality intact, or course.

"Some early milk production but I can't say I'm having any problems." Kara smiled. "I did take a slight tumble in my quarters a day or so ago but I've had no problems and the baby hasn't stopped moving so I didn't worry about coming to see you."

“A stumble. Were you a bit dizzy?” He asked. “Your iron levels seem to be on the low side.” He checked his PADD. “An easy fix, with supplement boosts. At this time in pregnancy, you will need a higher dosage.”

He then leaned to his medical cart, as he picked up a hypospray and programmed the dosage from his kit. “There we go,” he leaned in to gently release the vitamins into Kara's metabolism.

"I wasn't dizzy, I was careless!" She shook her head. "I tripped on the towel but luckily my husband was there with me." She blushed. "There's definitely nothing wrong with my libido!"

Tristian grinned. "Good thing." He winked. "Now." Gavin gestured for Kara to follow him. "I want to test the baby's heart rate more accurately." He walked into a brightly lit room—the large domed ceilings with diffused lighting seemingly illuminating from nowhere.

"This is a Halstead Scanner Mark IV. It is essentially created for birthing mothers and other species." He programmed the unit. "The Halstead looks scary, but's just really a large machine." He smiled. "I can see how your fetal cord is laid, Umbilical cord, or Amniotic cavity issues."

"Please, Kara step in when you are ready." Doctor Ross helped her in. Two nurses stood by.

Kara nodded. She had no reason not to trust Tristian and if there were any issues this machine could show them and allow Gavin to sort it. Stepping inside she looked to Tristian. "Ready when you are doctor."

As the machine whirred to life, the nurse calmed Kara. "It will only be a few moments. Your doing good Kara." She smiled.

Kara offered a smile, she had to admit this was a strange experience but it didn't hurt.

"What I am seeing is a very healthy baby. At 5 Months and 1 week and 2 1/2 days, exactly three hours, fourty two minutes and.... 30 seconds!" He followed the computer chronometer monitoring the changes to the baby, in the stage. "The baby is turning well. Does he give you a bunch of tumbles now and then? If he is like your husband Tomer you say, the baby is Athletic then." Tristian chuckled to his self to Kara.

"Oh he's definitely an active baby!" Kara grinned. "Trying to sleep isn't the easiest thing in the world as he's active both at night and during the day."

"Alright Almost done Kara, you've done great!" Dr. Hudson had smiled. He then checked the PADD, and altered some parameters in his scanning to pick up other matter patterns of DNA. "Looks like the baby is having a bit of an allergic reaction to something." He furrowed his eyebrow. "Do you have a history of allergies or any other kinds of allergies animals etc?" He asked Kara a bit concerned, confused of the results he was reading early on.

Kara looked at the doctor in surprise. "What?! Err ... No I don't have any allergies! What do you mean by an allergic reaction? Is my son alright? Is he in danger?!!" She was obviously extremely concerned by the news that Tristian had given her.

"I dont know yet. I will have to take a small bio sample of the DNA of the baby and you." Tristian had reached for a small instrument, with a laser scalpel so powerful, so strong, that you can barely notice a small microscopic pinpoint on the external derma. He then gave a small light bio mark on the belly of Kara. "Do you mind if I take a small DNA microscopic sample from the womb of the baby? This in no way will harm the child you have my word, if anything if believe you may have a small re-deundance inherited gene, a type of chromosome that plays havoc, but I need to study."

He knew this might be shocking to Kara.

Kara nodded. “Do whatever you need to do! Just promise me that my baby will be okay!” She was trying not to panic. “Should I call my husband so you can explain this to him?”

Tristian had got off to a completely wrong start. He had to correct, and calm down the situation. "Kara. Please! The DNA is a matter that we can work on therapy wise. Your child will grow to be healthy, normal, and strong or stronger as any boy child." He stressed. "I stress this to be truth!!" He gestured to his medical pad he was showing Kara.

"I have a soft sedative if you would like one, it won't harm you or the baby. It is natural ginsing root extract. It soothes the bodies neural nodes." He then pressed the sedative in to Kara's neck softly.

"Now, we can contact Lieutenant JG Chaim if you wish." He nodded. As a Doctor, Hudson had to expect the ups and downs of delivering news, even if it was temporary bad news, sick bay would be able to offer theraputic neuron dieletric scanner protein uptakes.

Kara nodded as she settled back onto the biobed, the sedative was indeed working to relax her anxieties.

The nurse nearby nodded in return and headed off to call Tomer. =/\= Sickbay to Lieutenant Chaim, nothing to be overly concerned about but could you come down. The doctor would like to speak with you. =/\=

Tomer did not like doctors. He was grateful that he was a healthy person so that he could avoid them except when he was required to see them. He might not be the brightest of bulbs but he did know that when a doctor claimed there was "nothing to be concerned about," that there was something to be concerned about and in this case, it meant, Kara or the baby was in trouble.

He hit his commbadge and said purposefully, =^= On my way. =^=

By the time Tomer arrived Kara was so relaxed she’d practically dozed off on the biobed allowing Tristian to get on with his work in peace.

“Sir!” Tristian had met Lt., JG Tomer, at the entrance to the sickbay. “I have your Wife in for a scan of your child. The pregnancy is going well, and there is no concern. I have asked you to be down here, so has your Wife. I am going to complete a microscopic level biopsy of the fetus. I need to study a gene that has been expressed.”

“Kara here has been given a soft natural sedative. She may be a bit groggy, Tomer.” He took the liberty of befriending Man’s name.

Tomer rushed to Kara's side and held her hand lovingly, "Are you alright? I'm here. I'm here." He then was full of questions for the doctor, "A biopsy? What do you suspect? Is our Captain going to be in any danger? It is because I'm Jewish, right?"

"No... Of course not!" Kara offered a weary smile trying to put her husband's mind at rest now he was here with her.

"Please, Lieutenant Chaim, have a seat." Ross had reached for a nearby patient chair and stood near them at Kara's bedside.

“Again, Sir. I trust you. This biopsy will not harm your child in any way. This is an extremely safe procedure. It will allow me to come up with a therapeutic treatment if necessary.” He added.

"I don't like it," Tomer replied, crossing his hands. "No harm had better come to my wife or son, Doctor. I'm trusting you with this...."

Gavin had to understand that there were limits when discussing treatment with patients. At this moment. At this time, it was not critical. “At this time, there is no criticality,” Gavin stressed to both Lieutenant JG Quinn-Chaim and Lieutenant JG Chaim. “Please, last, I want you to think that I am a trigger happy biopsy man with a Ph.D. But, in all seriousness, let me give you the space to talk it over. I will be in my office, and the nurses will be around.” Lieutenant Ross nodded, “Sound good? I will have the nurses bring in something to eat for you both.” He clasped his hands together.

Kara was feeling more awake now her body had adjusted to the dose of relaxants that Gavin had given her. “Thank you Doctor” she looked to Tomer. “I think we should allow the Doctor to do what he needs to do Tomer.”

Doctor Hudson eyed Kara, ensuring she was comfortable with the amount of anti-anxiety medication prescribed. He smiled at the young couple. This was their first pregnancy. He wanted to ensure everything would go smoothly and relaxed as could. He was confident that the DNA mutation could be fixed therapeutically.

Tomer bit his lower lip and just nodded. Was he a fool to think that a human and Kara's mixed heritage would not have complications? He did not care. He would not trade Kara for the world. He also wanted their child to be perfect. Hopefully the doctor would make sure of that. He took his wife in his arm and started to coax her out of the medical bay.

"Tomer wait!" Kara looked back. "We should stay and let the doctor do what he has to do!"

"I thought he did it," Tomer responded, truly confused.

Ross shook his head apologetically. "No. 10 Minutes top I promise." He chuckled.

Reluctantly he led Kara back to the table. "Just be careful with her, Doctor."

Kara offered a smile. "I'll be fine, we both will." She looked at Ross. "Just get this over and done with please."

Within a few more moments, there was a warm hum, and then a soft ventilating hiss at the top side of the machine. The software was removed, along with bio gel nerve supports.

“Well, Lieutenant. It looks like you are fully fixed.” He tore out his medical tricorder. Tristian smiled at his handiwork. Not bad, no scars!” As he said, there would not be.

“Wow that’s it?” Kara smiled at Tomer. “Okay, now you can take me home.”

For an answer, Tomer kissed his wife deeply and passionately. "I thought I could take you anywhere."

Kara grinned. “Mmmm please do!” She took his arm and they headed on their way.
