Mission 5 - The Cold War Ends
Location: Falta
Timeline: MD01 - 2200
The neon glow of Falta City flickered in the distance as Veiric Thol pulled his hood tighter around his face. The night air was thick with the scent of ozone and the acrid smoke from a nearby industrial sector. The streets were emptier than usual—curfews had been strict ever since Governor Dreym Taga had begun her crackdown on off-world sympathizers. Veiric was one of those sympathizers, and if the governor’s enforcers caught him, he wouldn't live to see another sunrise.
He slipped into a dimly lit basement beneath an abandoned garage, where a small group of sympathizers huddled around a makeshift map of the spaceport. The air was thick with tension and whispered plans.
“We can’t keep waiting,” said Joren, a wiry man with sharp eyes. “Taga’s forces are closing in. If we don’t move now, we may lose our only chance to get someone off-world.”
Asha, a former dock worker, tapped a spot on the map. “There’s a supply freighter scheduled to depart for Faltan Station in two days. It’s not ideal, but if we can get someone aboard, they could make contact with the Federation and potentially send help. If they're unwilling, we could use it as a point for smuggling arms and supplies.”
Veiric crossed his arms. “The challenge is getting through security. Taga has doubled the checkpoints. We need a distraction.”
“We can stage a power failure in the industrial district,” suggested Kess, an engineer. “That’ll pull security away long enough for someone to slip through.”
Joren nodded. “It’s risky, but it might be our best shot. Now we just need to decide who goes.”
Silence fell over the room. They all knew that whoever left might never return, but if they succeeded, they could bring back the aid they desperately needed.
“Let’s make this count,” Veiric said finally. “For Falta’s future.”
