405 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Mission 1: The Return to Faltan
Location: ISV Kaiell, in Orbit of Faltan
Timeline: MD05 - 1850

Telhas went into his quarters to take the call of Tal Shiar General Sonara T'Daran, chairperson of the Tal Shiar. He settled at his desk and activated the screen.

"Madam Director, I have been expecting your call."

"Yes, you are always into nice chatter with family, aren't you?" Sonara sneered.

The icy look of Telhas showed that he was not in the mood for this. "My wife, your cousin, is dead!"

"I know, and that's a pity," Sonara said coldly, "For both of us. Now we need to show that we are not week and can handle this situation. We have to get those who are responsible. According to my analysis, Starfleet is unlikely behind this. They have too much to lose, and would not gain anything. The Faltans are in the same situation, but they may think that they will win being left alone."

"It does not take the Shiar's resources for that," Telhas replied, "And if you ask me, it is the right time for some gunboat diplomacy, and maybe a little war."

"Ah, ah, ah," Sonara rose a finger, "We should not do that. At least not the war. Not without proof. We are a civilized, rational people."

"And what is your glorious idea then?" Telhas asked displeased.

Sonara shrugged. "I have none. But with the D'Tarex's equipment you should be able to obtain qualified results. I will put them under your command, but they also have orders to prevent you from doing something stupid. No genocide, no firing except for defense."

"Not yet," Telhas said with a cold grin. "If we have the necessary proof, I will take proper action. And be assured, it will not lead to conflict with the Federation. I am no idiot, I know what I am doing. Do not treat me like I would not."

Sonara leaned back in her chair and watched him for a moment. "You really loved her, am I right?"

Telhas nodded. "Yes."

Sonara laughed. "She's been the black sheep in our House, and you fell in love with her! Who would have expected that from a political deal?"

"Do not forget," Telhas hissed, "that you owe it to her that you are Patrician now. To her, and to me."

"I do, Telhas, I really do. You have my support in this case. If you need more, just tell me and I will do what I can."

Then the screen went black.
