Mission:
Mission 5 - The Cold War Ends
Location: Deck Five Food Court
Timeline: Afternoon
A new station, a new home. All three boys were now in class at their new school. Nicholas though, sure he was touted to be a civilian trader now, but he wanted more. Nicholas wanted to get back into science. There was so much to see out there was, here in this new place. He had started getting to know the Chief of Science on Poseidon Station, then the orders were sent out, they were being called to another station, Faltan Station.
Maybe the Chief of Science, Lieutenant Jason Beauvoir would be willing to allow Nicholas to work with him in Science. It was worth a shot.
Nicholas sent off a message to him.
Greetings, my name is Nicholas Hall, I would like a meeting with you. Maybe over a meal. I would like to discuss something with you. In case you didn't know I am from Poseidon Station.
The message sent now he waited for an answer.
"Of course, I'd be honoured, I read your book about the Tsbi people of Latrin V, excellent work." Jason replied.
Nicholas' eyebrows shot up disappearing into his hairline. "Thank you where shall we meet? Maybe at the deli on the promenade or in your office?"
"The deli sounds great, after all, there's no food in my office, and I have to get to know this station better." Jason replied.
"Meet me at the food court on Deck Level 15, I'll be wearing a red tee shirt, black blue jeans and boots. I'll be waiting at the entrance of the place. See you soon." Nicholas closing down communication.

True to what Nicholas had said, he was there, waiting for Jason. He had his back against the wall with his arms folded across his chest.
Jason arrive not long after, he was dressed in his Starfleet Sciences uniform. "Bonjour, Nicholas, I'm Jason, its nice to meet you in person."
Nicholas moved from leaning against the wall, his broad shoulders shifing as he did so. "Thank you for coming." holding out his hand to shake Jason's hand, his own, a warm firm grip, flashing a smile a friendly smile."Let's go have a look and see what they offer."
When going inside there were a variety of foods being offered. The one that attracted Nicholas' attention was the one who had a good roast beef sandwich, with the side of coleslaw and fries. "That looks like that is the winner for me with a good drink. How about you?" Turning his head towards, Jason.
"I'll have the turkey BLT and a Vulcan spice tea." Jason said. Then to Nicholas he asked. "Shall we find a table?"
"Sounds good to me, how about over there?" Nicholas gesturing towards a table next to a planter, which had some plants in it. Not too far from where their food was being prepared. Taking a seat, Nicholas gave a bit of a smile as he looked around, "This place is certainly different from Poseidon Station, and another station I had been in command of."
Jason waited for the older man to take a seat, before doing so himself. "Speaking of Command, have you by any chance meet my mother, Captain T'Lisa Anderson, she's captained the USS Canterbury for over ten years, and keeps refusing a promotion that will take her away from her beloved ship." Jason said.
"I remember meeting her, I loved talking with her when I was able to. I can 't blame her for refusing the promotion. I had a friend who served under me, not wanting to get promoted and yet was persuaded to accept her promotions. She definitely protested greatly. I knew her weak points though." he took a bite of his sandwich, chewing it as he thought of T'Lisa. "Your mother was quite smart in not accepting the promotions. When I had the chance to leave, I went for it. It was rather nice to not be part of the admiralty anymore. "
"I can understand. You get promoted to the Admiralty, for doing a great job as a starship/Starbase Captain, only to be taken away from that job, to sit around in meetings all day and have to deal with politics, no wonder there are so many resignations." Jason said. "My experience this is totally theoretical of course." (Note: in a now defunct possible future Jason became Superintendent of Starfleet Academy, and still has memories of that timeline).
"I left due to having been assigned a special assignment working -" he paused for a moment then leaned forward in a rather low voice. "I worked with my wife, Captain Brina Tracy, then when she became pregnant we took a long sabbatical and I helped her through her pregnancy. Say, have you had experience with Time Travel?" Nicholas leaning back to see what Jason's reaction would be.
"Yes, in a way." Jason said. "It was more an alternate future." He began. I was Chief Science Officer onboard the Portland, and my CO was Captain Alenis Meru." Said thinking back all those years ago. "It began when when the captain died, I can't remember how, and we were all reassigned. The action takes up again 10 years later, when we are all contacted by Alenis' sentient holographic replica, long story, who is now a Bajoran priest. During her communion with the Prophets, she'd found a way to prevent Alenis's death. I was Superintendent of Starfleet Academy and although I couldn't leave my post, I sent two Starships, to aid them. Next thing I knew I was back on the Portland as though nothing had happened." Jason sighed. "I know its not much of a story, but most of the memories have faded over time."
"Well for me, I still have the memories of a whole other lifetime in another universe. I became a king, had kids helped another race survive. while my wife was looking for me, and I showed up one day not knowing how to speek, and had to be reminded of who she was. I love her but she had to bring back to this realm. Talk about a lady who stands by her man." Nicholas chuckled.
"Indeed." Jason agreed. "That must have be confusing sometimes and grief you must feel for the life, that you never had." He said. "You remember the hologram I mentioned of Captain Alenis, she was created because of me. On a diplomatic Away Mission, something in the planet's atmosphere brought on an artificial Pon Farr in me and I fixated on the Captain. In order to prevent my death, the crew created a holo-Meru to satiate the mating drive. She later changed her name, and while I was aboard the Portland we remained friends."
"That sounds like it was really difficult for you. As for that other life, the life and family that had been made, I do grieve for it from time to time, and also about the lost time I had with Brina. However she'd scold me about that." giving a lopsided smile, "She told me it was best that we just move forward, and enjoy the time we are having together."
"That's good advice, you're a lucky man, Nicholas." Jason said with a smile. "After the blood fever broke, things were a little awkward, but things worked out in the end." Raising his glass, Jason said. "To things working out, in the end!"
Nicholas raised his own glass towards Jason, "I echo that sentiment, Jason and here's to teaming up and to new friends." giving him a nod.
"To new friends." Jason agreed and took another drink of his tea. "So, Nicholas, do you have any currently ongoing research?" He asked.
"Well, not as of yet unless you consider this station to be my research project for now, Until we can get the chance to go down to that planet below." Nicholas taking a drink from his glass.
"Its always interesting to meet a new culture and explore a new planet." Jason said.
"From the scuttlebutt I've heard there's more things going on down there than meets the eye. I'm hoping that there will be more information coming in. Something like this if not having the information, it can go sideways." Nicholas frowning.
"Indeed, I've been in such a situation before." Jason said.
"Let me know when you would like to have me report in." Nicholas giving a brilliant smile.
"Let's say 0900 hours tomorrow." Jason said.
Nicholas rose from his chair. "I am off to get my boys from school. See you in the morning." giving a nod, he picked up his tray and put it into the recycler before striding away.
Jason smiled, he was a father too, but his daughter, Jena, was now grown and leading her own life.
Nicholas loved the fact that he was going semi back to work and was liking that fact. Besides Brina and his boys, who were now first and foremost his loves, there was still the love of science of which he has neve had dimmed.
