Nobody was more surprised that Tomer that M'Mira was planning a party. It was no secret that M'Mira liked parties but she had not thrown one since the disaster on the planetary station. After all, between her and him, there was the attack and then whatever the Falteans gained from the abandonment.
During the initial briefing, the Colonel had offered the marine's assistance in making the place secure. This was the time to test the Colonel's resolve. =^= Colonel Patton, this is Acting Security Chief, Lieutenant Chaim. Can I have a moment with you? =^=
"Anytime Lieutenant. I will come to you. Patton out." Jack had just finished writing his cover up of sorts for what Aer and company was going to accomplish. The chat with the Security Chief would be a welcome change. He stood and fixed his beret then headed for the Security office.
A few short moments later Jack strode into the Security Office. "Lieutenant, what can I do for you?" He said with a broad smile.
"Colonel," Tomer started and then gestured at a seat before his desk for the Colonel to sit. The Acting Security Chief sat down once the Colonel did. "The reason that I asked to speak with you is that during the briefing, you offered your marines for assistance in Security. The Captain is planning to have a station wide party tomorrow."
He paused and took a drink of water. "This is a huge step for the Captain. I do not know if you are familiar with how we came to this Deep Space Station. Things were in the works to come here but the Captain was fighting it. She liked the planetary station. Taga obviously did not care for us being there. The last moments we were on the planetary station, there was a huge party. I was in charge of Security and the Captain, well, she was in charge of everything as the new commander. Diplomats from everywhere came. Then there was the attack and while she got as many people here, Starfleet still blamed her. Candy Templeton's reports did not assist her either. She was demoted and a new Captain and XO came here for a short while until she got this station back."
Tomer tried to let that sink in before continuing. "Honestly, I think Captain M'Mira did as much as she could. She saved a lot of lives, but the shock of it.... Well, it probably scarred her. She likes parties and this station, well, it could always use some frivolity. The constant threat of war, well, that sort of stress takes a lot out on people. So, the fact that she's willing to make a party again.... Well, I need to make certain that it works for her and for me. We need redemption, sir."
Internally Jack thought that this was perhaps the worst thing anyone can ever do. A station wide party in an area where most people do not like Starfleet. Additionally, this is an area where as Tomer just stated a terrorist action occurred in the past, additionally there is Candy who when Jack gets through with her will be lucky to write cooking articles. However, that was internally. Externally Jack smiled. "Of course Lieutenant. Everyone would want a diplomatic function to go over well. What can the Kingsmen do to assist? We are at your service."
"For an event this large, as the Captain is likely to make it, we need eyes everywhere. I only have so much staff." Tomer stroked his stuble thoughtfully and then continued. "Since we're a bit more familiar with the folks who are already here, perhaps we could have my department at the party itself and your marines watching transporters, shuttles, and anywhere else that people should not be?"
"Agreed. I will also have men stationed at a perimeter. You set the distance for the perimeter and my men will act as invitation checkers and the like. Your people can mingle and enjoy the party of sorts. As you say they know the players better than we do." Jack simply added to Tomer's plan. It was a good one, and one that made sense. In truth Jack was kind of impressed, Tomer just needed a tad more confidence and perhaps he would be the best security chief the fleet had to offer.
"Just one problem," Tomer replied. "I don't think that M'Mira is issuing invitations. I think she is opening it up to anyone. And you know a certain reporter is bound to be there."
Jack had a broad smile on his face at the statement that Tomer had made. "That should not be a problem. Confirm with the Captain that there will be no invitations. Once that is confirmed then the perimeter will have purview to check everyone upon entry, this will of course be for the safety of all. As to the reporter, if she shows she of course will be allowed in. However, her recording devices are another story." Jack knew better than most that in situations such as this there was a lot of leeway in what they could do in the name of station security.
Tomer chuckled. "Well, I do not think that really matters too much to her. She seems to have, like all women, a rather sharp memory when she desires it." He then shrugged, "Then again, it is a party. What trouble could she really cause."
He swallowed hard and shook his head. Tomer then said, "I probably just cursed us. Sorry I said anything."
"Lucky for us, I come from a long line of people who never believed in curses. Constant vigilance will win the day as it always does. What I would like you to do is appoint two members of your security team to be the liaison between the Marines on the perimeter and yourself. It is best to have a go between as well as the communications." The strategic wheels in Jack's head turned. He also planned to tap his wife as a resource. Intelligence operatives were trained in security while making it seem like there was no security.
"I'll find two. I know that I will be at the party. My wife will want to be there and M'Mira will feel better with my presence there, too. Perhaps someone from intelligence could chip in, though I would not recommend Adam Burns."
"The Chief Intelligence Officer just happens to be a very close friend. I will check in with her." Jack said with a broad smile. Sometimes he truly loved when people thought the same as he did. In this case he was overjoyed that he and the Chief Security Officer were on the same page.
"Alright, then. Just check in with me when you have the answer. Is there something else that you can think of to assist with this party?"
"Not at the moment Lieutenant. Thanks for everything. I am sure that this little shindig of our Captain's will go off without a hitch." Jack said. What he didn't add was that it would be great so long as that reporter did not show up.
