Mission 5 - The Cold War Ends
Location: Shuttlebay
Timeline: MD05 - 0900
Today was the day! Tomer was ecstatic. Finally, he would be able to relinquish the reigns. Finally he could spend more time with his wife and children. No more creation of duty rosters. It was a great day! He just hoped that this was not a false alarm.
So, it was little surprise that Tomer was waiting at the shuttlebay waiting for Kora's shuttle to appear. When it docked, he did everything that he could to maintain his composure.
Unfortunately for him, Kora was a patient woman and not only waited for everyone else to disembark first, but made sure the shuttle crew were safe as well. Shen she finally did disembark, she recognized him immediately - not only was he the person handing off the Security department to her, but he looked simultaneously excited to see her and annoyed at having to wait.
"Good 'morrow, Lieutenant!" Kora called out as she offered a hand in greeting and a warm yet secretive smile as she approached her fellow officer in yellow. "Tomer Chaim, I presume? You look shorter in your file."
"Perhaps it was a picture taken in my youth?" he offered, his good nature showing through. "Of course, we will have to confirm that you are who you are and then I can transfer the security codes to you once you have checked in with the Captain. She will not be much of an issue, though."
Kora's smile widened as she motioned for him to lead the way. "Then let us confirm that I am who I claim to be. I look forward to meeting the famous Captain M'Mira. You know, if I recall correctly, I taught a Caitian exchange student some years back with such a passion for culture and naps..." She paused and had to catch herself. "Oh but that was so long ago. My how time flies, doesn't it?"
"Well, she has a passion for naps, but don't let anyone tell you that I said so. I can't speak for the rest," Tomer replied jovially. He held up a PADD, "Please state your name and rank and look straight into the PADD when you're doing it," he instructed Kora.
She straightened up to her full five foot nothing and looked sternly at the PADD. "I am Lieutenant Kora Sidero assigned to Starfleet Security for Faltan Station." She held up her own PADD, a far older model that looked like it had seen a better era, a twinkle in her eye. "Do you want me to confirm you are who I'm pretty sure you are who you think you are or do you want me to take my word on it?"
"Funny," Tomer replied less than humored. "Since I have the security codes, I think that you can trust me," he finished. "Would you like me to update you on our situation?"
"Yes, I would." Kora replied, once more all business. "I heard you have some business worth pulling me away from resettlement duties, so I would love to be briefed on it as soon as possible."
Tomer answered, "Well, we were rather quiet for about eight years but we have been getting reports that Faltan planet is experiencing some domestic tumult. The Big three: Faltan, Raeya, and Union seem to be having breakdowns in their alliance, and there are signs of war in the sector. As a result, the marines were called in and we have a marine XO, Colonel Jack Patton. I do not get the impression that he likes Captain M'Mira much and I am not certain if the Captain cares or not. I do know that the Colonel REALLY does not like the FNS reporter, Candy Templeton. Anyway, that's the brief overview. I can go over anything with you in detail."
He paused for a moment and asked, "Would you like me to escort you to your quarters first? Meet the Captain? Meet my wife? Something else?"
That certainly did sound like a bit of an issue. Kora nodded and filed it away for future study - she'd have to prepare well and she suspected she knew well the types of people each person was already without having met them. "We might as well see the Captain first and get the formalities over with. After that I should be able to figure out where I live and where I work from the map. We'll have to do dinner sometime. I have so many recipes that I just know you and your wife are going to love. I have a collection that you would not believe."
"My wife and I would love to attend, though there is the issue of our children.... You see, we're trying to have enough to field an entire starship," he told her with a loud belly laugh. "So, kid friendly might be best or we need to find a babysitter. But, if you wish to meet the Captain, let me take you to her office. I'm certain that she will have someone wake her before we get there." He then put his arm by his mouth and said, "Again, you heard none of that from me. She does like to put on appearances."
"Don't worry about that, I can keep a secret. I was around during the Eugenics Wars, after all." Kora replied with a friendly laugh of her own. "So let's start with my recipe for chocolate butterscotch snickerdoodles. No kid can resist sweets and I guarantee they'll love them. Do you have any cooking supplies? There's nothing quite like fresh baked cookies and making a batch by hand will give them a new appreciation for good food, you know."
"Oh, yes, we definitely have cooking supplies. It would not be a Jewish household without them, though I have to say that my wife is not Jewish."
"That is wonderful to hear," Kora smiled brightly. It always warmed her heart to hear when people stuck to traditional lifestyles. It really brightened her mood because that meant she could see how they've evolved over the years. "I'm sure your wife is a wonderful and compassionate person, otherwise you would not have gotten married and started such a large family."
"Butter me up, why don't you? I'll talk about my family all day if you give me the opportunity."
"And I will give you that opportunity," Kora had a sly grin as she slipped a wrapped butterscotch candy out of her pocket and into his hand. "Just as soon as we're able."
Tomer looked at the butterscotch and calmly pocketed it. "Well, let's get you to the Captain, why don't we? Any last words before you meet her?"
"Any last words? Is this a death march? Is she going to claw my eyes out and try to eat me?" The shorter woman looked almost looked excited as she pursed her lips in a controlled smile and watched Tomer's reaction carefully. "Or is she going to curl up on me and sleep for the next hundred years so I can't move?"
Tomer scrutinized Kora. "I've never seen her do either of those things, but knowing her, she would be more likely to do the latter than the former."
