[LAST TIME ON PARTY TIME]
Candy laughed at Jack and then gave him a knowing wink, "Oh, there will be a broadcast during this function, but you will see when it goes. I assure you, though, that I will not be doing anything other than letting everyone witness my marvelous self here."
She gave him a sly smile. "I hope that you understand that for tonight, I'm only planning on being a good girl. Like Jessica Rabbit, I'm not bad, but I might be drawn that way."
"Ms Templeton I do not think you fully understand. If you broadcast anything, even if it is your trite and pedantic self you will be arrested and charged. Under order of the Captain there is no broadcast to be had. Period." Jack knew that she meant that she would simply be happy with everyone looking at her, and most likely would not broadcast. But wanted to drive home the point.
"Now, Colonel," Candy started, her voice dripping with the sweet stickiness of a spider who already caught her prey in her web. "How could I possibly broadcast anything while I am here enjoying this lovely party? Hmmm?" Candy smiled nearly snake-like, her tongue briefly flicking out to touch her lips. "I'm certain that Connor, there, will tell you that I am mostly harmless." She favored Connor with a sugary sweet smile.
Connor, on the other hand, looked like he wanted to disappear, and as quickly as possible.
[AND NOW FOR THE CONTINUATION]
Jack glanced at Connor and then turned back toward Candy. He refused to be baited into whatever Candy thought she tried to do here. Fact was he had right where he needed her. Out in the open with no recording devices and being watched by everyone. "Ms Templeton you are free to enter and enjoy yourself." He stepped aside and behind Candy as she stepped through.
"Why thank you, Colonel," Candy replied pleasantly, as she took Connor's arm and dragged him into the main party.
The arrival of Candy caught Brina's attention and she watched as things unfolded, she couldn't catch what was being said, though the way that Candy was smiling her eyebrow raised.
Nicholas seeing thet Brina's attention was being occupied, he asked, "What's got your attention?"
Brina looked away from Candy, "It's the woman who is being spoken to by Patton, I don't trust her, and I think that it would be a good idea for you to avoid that woman, as she's going to try to weasel things out of people."
"Don't forget my background, love. I know trouble when I see it. And she better not come anywhere near me or the boys. She won't like what would happen. And I know you rather well."
A cold look appeared in Brina's eyes. "You are right, she had better stay away from our boys."
Candy wasn't someone she trusted, not what so ever.
When Candy passed through the checkpoint and cleared Jack. He turned to Brina and signaled that she should follow the reporter. Candy just got a nice down coat and that coat was named Songbird.
Candy smiled, as she suspected that she was being tailed. She would have been disappointed if she was not. Of course, she knew that she was here to do nothing more than observe. However, her fun was yet to start.
Dragging Connor along with her, she walked up to the group with Captain M'Mira. "Captain," Candy started. "You look absolutely fabulous and the party you put together is impressively created. I do believe that you have outdone yourself."
M'Mira answered, "Thank you, Candy. It is good to see you herrre. Have a good time."
The Promenade buzzed with quiet chatter under the nebula-lit dome. Lieutenant Theo Ashford stepped in from the turbolift wearing his blue zipper hoodie, khaki cargo shorts, and chunky silver watch. A touch over six feet and lean, he moved with calm ease—shoulders relaxed, steel-gray eyes scanning the room. Short dark brown hair, silver-flecked beard, faint scar on his left jaw.
Not knowing anyone, he approached the group near the fountain.
“Evening,” he said with a warm smile and smoothed Toronto lilt. “Lieutenant Theo Ashford, your new Chief of Operations. Just got here.” He flashed a sheepish grin. “Don’t mind the hoodie and shorts—came straight off the shuttle and, uh, clearly jumped the gun on casual Friday. Any tips for the new guy before I embarrass myself?”
Connor looked somewhat relieved as Theo introduced himself. He immediately popped up and said, "I'm Connor, the Acting Chief Engineer, until we get a real one. Good to meet you, mate."
Before he could get another word out, Candy told Connor, "You are more than capable of being the Chief Engineer. You just need to be more confident and assertive." She then smiled at Theo like a crocodile eying its prey and held out her hand limply with her palm facing down, as if she expected Theo to pick it up and kiss it. "I am Candy Templeton, certainly you know me...Federation News Service...."
Theo stepped up with an easy, lopsided grin, steel-gray eyes warm with genuine interest.
He gave Connor a friendly nod and firm handshake.
“Connor, Acting Chief Engineer? Mate, you already sound like the guy who keeps this place from falling apart. Looking forward to working with you.” He genuinely was impressed.
Turning to Candy, he took her offered hand with a gentle, respectful shake and a playful sparkle in his eye. “Miss Templeton — Federation News Service. Your reports made the long trip out here a lot more interesting. Nice to finally put a face to the byline.”
He glanced around the group, including M’Mira, with an open, approachable smile.
“Captain, any survival tips for the new guy who’s clearly dressed for a beach instead of a nebula station? I promise I clean up better than this… usually.”
Theo slipped his hands into his pockets, relaxed and friendly, radiating that 'good guy you’d want to grab a drink with' energy.
M'Mira shrugged at Theo and answered him, "I think you arrre doing just fine as is."
Connor turned away the moment that Theo complimented him. "You're the new Chief Operations Officer. You actually get to keep the station going on a day to day basis. I just keep others from infiltrating."
“Understood. If I find anything out of the ordinary, I know who to call.” Theo nodded.
Candy smiled at Theo. He clearly had taste. "I'm so glad that you enjoy the Sweet Truth and it is always so wonderful to meet a fan. Perhaps I could do a special interview of you? Would you like that? Oh, and you are so right about Connor. He is impressive but oh, so humble. I keep telling him he needs to accept more credit."
Ashford playfully winked at Candy. Ashford was not one to talk about himself, but it might be an opening to introduce himself to this huge station—an easy way to make new friends. “I will take your offer under advisement. Until then, I will keep my Sweet Truth programmed on the dial.” Ashford replied. Having a look around the whole station was impressed at the amount of culture and atmosphere radiating from the Station.
Jason had been mingling when he noticed Candy and then Theo enter. They sure know how to make an entrance. He thought to himself.
Approaching them, Jason addressed Theo. "Don't worry Monsieur, I arrived aboard in a Romulan Republic Science Uniform, to a Senior Staff meeting." He said. "Jason Beauvoir, Chief Science Officer, welcome aboard."
“EL-T Beauvoir! That is one story I look forward to hearing from you. It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Sir.” Ashford reached out to shake Beauvoir’s hand. Knowing he was the Station's Science Officer, the man would be very smart.
Jason accepted Theo's hand and shook it. "Okay, but later, now is time to eat, drink and be merry."
"Captain, Lieutenant, Mademoiselle Templeton may I say you look radiant tonight?" Jason said.
M'Mira beamed at Jason. Her tail swished happily behind her. "Thank you, Are you enjoying the party so far?"
Connor, on the other hand wondered at the compliment and just looked for an excuse to escape.
Candy, on the other hand held her hand out for Jason. "Oh, please, do tell me more...."
Jason accepted Candy's hand and gently kissed it. "As a linguist, I was extremely interested in your expose' on the new Romulan crime syndicate and their use of ancient Romulan slang." Jason said with a smile. "I also enjoyed the figure hugging suit you wore during your investigation."
Candy giggled demurely and pulled her hand. "Flattery will get you anywhere."
"I'll keep that in mind." Jason said.
Connor scoffed at the comment and told everyone, "I think I'm going to get some punch."
"I'll join you, Lieutenant." Jason said. "I'll be right back, Captain, Mademoiselle Templeton."
Greta had made though the Marine gauntlet. Dressed in a sapphire coloured gown, she began to mingle.
Seeing a familiar face, she made a bee line for Jason.
"Goedeavond, Neef (Good evening, Cousin)." She said to him. "Still the ladies' man, I see."
Jason looked at her a moment then recognition hit his eyes. "Mon Dieu, Greta, Its great to see you, how long has it been?"
"Fourteen years, give or take a month or three." Greta said. "My Academy graduation party."
"That long? I'm sorry life has been hectic." Jason said.
"That's an understatement, I hear you're a father now."
"Yes, her name is Jena, she's a science officer and she's serving with Yvette on the USS Artemis."
Greta looked puzzled.
"Oh, she's 22, we only met about 8 years ago, she's the daughter of someone I dated at the Academy."
"That makes sense, I knew mama's side of the family were academically gifted, but being in Starfleet as a child was a bit much." Greta said. "So, how is Yvette?"
"Well. She's no longer a spook, now she's back in Security." Jason said.
"I hope she's happy, I'm in Security too." Greta said. "I report to a Lieutenant Sidero in the morning."
"With a minor in Operations, if I remember correctly?"
"You do." Greta said. "That was a great idea of Aunt T'Lisa, opens a lot of doors."
"Actually it was her mother's idea, she was Starfleet too." Jason corrected.
"Okay, interesting. So when are you going to get me some punch?"
Jason laughed. "I've missed you."
"That's not answering my question, and I'm not getting any less thirsting, with you flapping your gums."
"One glass of punch, coming right up." Jason said and headed for the table.
