Mission 2: Into The Breach
Location: Refelian's Office
Timeline: MD04 - 0930hours
Now Casshan had to report in to the Station's command team and make sure they are aware of his situation. It was to allow the command team to perform the probationary meetings in the stead of a Starfleet Medical supervisor, yet he did tell the Chief Medical Officer as well so she could keep an eye on him.
Casshan entered the Admin building and after speaking with the information officer made his way to the Captain's Office, hopeful that the XO may be present. Two birds with one stone phrase came to mind as Casshan walked.
He arrived and tapped on the chime than waited.
”Come in.” Came the reply over the comm.
He tapped the door control and walked in, his uniform crisp and fresh, due to his departmental duality it's coloured collar had medical blue under his pips and the rest diplomatic purple. Casshan came to a halt a few steps inside. "Lieutenant Junior Grade Casshan Kincaid reporting in Captain."
“Ah, yes. I’m sure one of these many PADDs on my desk has your orders on. As you can see I’m a little busy.” Captain Refelian said as he stood up. “A pleasure to meet you Mr Kincaid. I’m Captain Refelian.” He said as he offered the Lieutenant his hand.
Casshan had to smile. "Ah the never ending paperwork of command," he accepted the captain's hand and held for a few moments before releasing. "Hopefully some of that is diplomatic related, in which case I'm at your service."
“The Faltan Government is probably going to be your main area to concentrate on for the moment.” Refelian said, gesturing to the free seats in front of his desk. “I’m guessing you’ve read the Diplomatic brief on them.”
The Betazoid walked over to the seat and sat down. "Thank you, been a long day yesterday and the journey here was uneventful. Yes," he said quickly, "They don't want us here anymore. Our presence looks and feels like a plague to them. I'm willing to bet not all share this view but those are not in a position to influence the rest into any sort of long term peace." Casshan said frowning but secretly excited at a challenge that can put him to the diplomatic test. "Unless there have been any developments recently?" He asked.
“No, Lieutenant, that about sums up what has been going on here since Faltan Station has been reinstated. The former governor was at least willing to talk but the one who replaced him seems to have an agenda of their own and more likely wanting to force Starfleet out of there patch. Which, if I’m honest, isn’t likely to happen. The Faltan system is to important to Starfleet with the Sovereignty of Kahless and the Romulan Free Movement looking to gain more territory. We’re the only ones keeping the peace in the region.” The Captain explained. “Drink?” He offered.
Casshan frowned. "I take it that importance is classified?" He asked then nodded. "Sure, a Betazoid red tea." He said.
Refelian rose from his seat and walked over to the replicator. "Not classified, just simple geography. If Faltan falls, so does the rest of the Raeya Sector Block, which is a vast amount of space and resources." The Captain said before ordering the Lieutenant's Betazoid Red Tea and a Coffee for himself. He placed both drinks on his desk and sat back down. "The other problem is the local's can't stand Starfleet or the Federation, it would surprise me if the new Governor wants to oust us completely, but they don't see the bigger picture that we're dealing with."
"Thank you for the tea sir," Casshan said as he brought it closer and then blew on it before taking a slip. Although Casshan didn't specify hot or cold, the computer must have made it the most requested option: hot. It's burn went through his mouth and throat quickly, cooling moments later along with the Red Tea taste that he was fond of made up for his lack of patience.
He placed the tea back down. "It's probably been many years since they recall being part of a larger community, that is if they had encountered other races before settling here. So of course they wouldn't see beyond their little corner of the galaxy until they were forced to which is probably when the Federation turned up, followed by the Sovereignty of Kahless and the Romulan Free Movement... Who makes up these names?" Casshan asked rhetorically, "So I take it the Klingon and Romulan Empires aren't monitoring the situation?"
"I very much doubt it, they've got bigger fish to fry than look at whats going on here. Although the bombing of the Romulan embassy we're probably on their radar now." The Captain said before taking a sip of his own coffee. "You'll have to go and make yourself known to the Romulan, Cardassian and Klingon ambassador's which are assigned to Faltan. Ambassador Telhas, the Romulan Ambassador, is a nice enough chap. Ambassador Kejaad, the Cardassian Ambassador, is well she doesn't have much to say. I'm yet to meet to Klingon Ambassador, who only arrived just before the ceremony."
Casshan picked up his Red Tea again and blew on it harder watching the ripples then sipped quickly. The burn did lessen and he did pick up the taste faster but then as he drank more the hotter liquid poured in and he replaced the cup back onto the desk softly. "I do have a thing for pointed ears and spots," he blinked, "did I really just say that outloud?" Casshan blushed before coughing to clear his throat.
Harry chuckled, “So, tell me a bit about yourself, Lieutenant? I’ve not had a chance to look over your record yet. It’s on the to do list for today.”
"Colourful and mischievous childhood, parents away a lot, got into trouble more than I should have and didn't care until I knew better much later." Casshan looked down at the Red Tea and had a few flashbacks, some he smiled at and others shook his head at. "Life got better with Starfleet, gave me purpose and taught me responsibility. I made a horrible mistake recently. It should be in my record and transfer orders sir." He slowly picked up the cup and blew on it then sipped, not looked back up, hoping the the Captain would go for the paperwork. His commanding officer had to know and per protocol would be required to be informed of his progress with patients, he had already told the Chief Medical Officer during his check in with her.
“Go on.” Refelian said. “I’m sure it’s in your file but I’d like to hear it from you.”
If he had a bar of latinum for every time he'd hear that back at Starfleet Medical, he'd be rich. His mouth was suddenly dry so he took another sip then placed it back on the desk. "I knew it was wrong the moment it started. I should have extracted myself from the situation and I don't even really know if it was my desires or his, as my senses were fully open, but during the counseling session we had relations." Casshan said absolutely defeated and his posture deflated. "What is worse is that he disappeared and couldn't testify so I had to take responsibility as I couldn't live with what I had done."
The Captain’s eye brows automatically went up in surprise. “I can see why there was an investigation but how did such an allegation come about from the other party present wasn’t there to testify?” He asked curious to know more.
“Oh I came forward, forgot to mention that. Sorry,” Casshan said, “as I said I couldn’t live with the guilt.” He finished off the tea as it was just warm now and replaced the cup on the desk. “Even if it wasn’t me who pushed things to go as quickly as they had.” He left out the fact it had been great experience though, no one needed to know that but him. Casshan fought the urge tooth and nail to smile at the memory of how great it was.
“I sincerely hope that this won’t be happen again?” Refelian asked.
“I have been through intense conditioning back at Starfleet Medical to help me focus, and the refresher course so I can better understand what happened and be in a controlled mind state that I can keep professional at all times during sessions. But I am required to request that you check up on me regularly, the Chief Medical Officer already knows and I made the same request of her as I am of you as we do not have a Chief Counselor who would be the primary supervisor.” Casshan said, he didn’t want to be the regular, ‘it won’t happen again reply’ guy.
Harry nodded, “We all have a lapse in judgement, some are worse than others but we are only human...or Betazoid in your case.” Harry said with a smile. “My door is always open if you need to talk.”
Casshan had to smile at the saying. "All I have done is talk about it, I need to move on and get back on track. I will do all I can to redeem myself and be better. Thank you for the offer Captain," he was reaching out with his hand.
Harry shook the Lieutenant’s hand. “Not a problem, I’m fairly open, if there is something on your mind or you want to do something come and talk to me.” He said with a chuckle.
"Actually may I have your permission to setup a meeting with all the Ambassadors, they are now my responsibility," he made a scrunched up face as if thinking on what he just said. Casshan nodded a moment later. "Right? They come to me with their concerns, not you. No offence." He smiled sheepishly.
Refelian nodded, “Taking some of that off my shoulders would be great but I don’t want them thinking I’m shutting the door on them. They can still come to me at any time.”
"That is their prerogative unless you don't want to see them all the time," Casshan chuckled.
Suddenly, a large explosion happened somewhere outside which shook the command hub. “What the hell was that?” Refelian said jumping to his feet and rushed to the large window in his office. In the background, the bird of prey was leaning to the right with large amounts of smoke billowing out of the large hull breach. There looked like there was quite a few casualties laying on the ground.
Coming to stand next to Harry and immediately sensing the high alert, pain, and suffering coming from the scene before him Casshan had the urge to rush out. And do what? He considered, he wasn't a doctor or nurse but he could help the injured people get to medical. He was about to head out and wondered if the Captain would stop him.
“Bloody hell.” The Captain said under his breath. He quickly tapped his comm badge “Refelian to Doctor Aereen, medical emergencies. Main landing padd.”
"I should alert the Klingon Ambassador?" Casshan asked turning to leave.
“Do it.” Refelian said without taking his eyes off the smoking Klingon Bird of Prey. ’Yet another mess to deal with.’ He thought to himself.
"Aye," Casshan said leaving.
