After hearing about the Medway and sending Mint to aid the Saber Class vessel, Harry went back into the party. His mind wasn’t in the party any more, he needed to find Paloma and tell her about the Medway.
He didn’t want the news of the Medway to teach her before he had a chance to speak to her. Then he finally caught sight of her, talking to one of the civilian community leaders, probably discussing the possibility of teaching at the station.
He watched and waited, making sure no one approached Paloma and told her the news. When the conversation ran its course, Harry made his way over to his daughter.
Paloma noticed her Dad moving towards her and smiled as she began to meet him. “Good News, Dad.” She beamed. “You’re looking at Faltan Station’s new school teacher.”
“That’s good news, sweetie.” Refelian said with a weak smile. “Can I have a word in private?”
Paloma frowned, “What’s wrong, Dad?”
Harry took hold of his daughters hand and lead her from the Diplomatic function room. Once they were in private, he turned to face Paloma. “We’ve received a distress call from the Medway. Something has happened, but we don’t know what. Mint has taken the Minotaur to investigate, once we have more information I’ll let you know.”
The colour dropped from her face as tears rolled down here cheek. “Pete.” She whispered as she broke down.
Harry caught his daughter and slowly lowered her down to the floor. He allowed her to cry for a few minutes, she needed to get it out of her system. “I’m sure it’s nothing serious, but if it is, Pete is a survivor. He’ll be fine.”
“But...but...but what if he’s not?” She asked, still sobbing. “What do I tell Junior?”
Harry pulled his daughter in tightly, “We’ll cross that bridge if it comes to it. I’m sure it’s nothing. Come on, let’s get you home.” He said before kissing Paloma on the head and slowly lifting her up.
“No, tonight is your night.” She said wiping the tears away with her sleeve.
“Family is more important.” Refelian replied as they began to walk back to his apartment.
