Mission 2: Into The Breach
Location: USS Medway
Timeline: MD04 - 0355 Hours
Cat had made her way up to the bridge, being sure not to step on anything that could cause any problems for anyone else. When she looked around, she wasn't even quite sure what to make of it. But she knew she was going to need help up here.
=^= Tendai to away team, I want everyone but Turner up to the bridge, just watch your step on the way up here. Turner, let us know the moment anything changes or if you can't keep things stable. =^=
On the commbadge, Cat could hear Connor say distractedly, =^=Everything is going to be fine here.=^= He then asked, =^=Isn't it? Oh, yes, isn't it?=^= in the same tone that one might talk to cute puppy. =^=Who's a good boy?=^= he asked again in the same tone. =^=You're my good boy,=^= he answered in return.
=^=Turner, watch your comms=^= Cat stated as she shook her head, waiting for the others. He was good at his job, but did like to talk to whatever he was working on.
Lieutenant Giordano walked onto the bridge, followed by Masters. “Commander, we haven’t discovered any survivors yet. Is there any chance we could get the internal sensors up so we could use them to find life signs?” The Medic asked, before flashing his light at the Captain's chair to see the body of, who he presumed, was the Captain laying slumped with his head at an unnatural angle.
Having not shone her light around yet, Cat let her own follow Leo’s and she cringed slightly. “I...agree with trying to get sensors up, without pulling any power from Turner’s work.”
=^=Watch my comms?=^= Connor asked in a far away voice. =^= I'm watching this lovely computer. =^=
=^=Meaning make sure your comm isn't active while talking to the computer, Connor.=^= Cat was going to say more but...
Suddenly a noise could he heard from under some debris...
"I'm not the only one who heard that right?" She stated as she slowly moved to where she had heard the sound. "Someone there?"
Giordano pulled out his tricorder. “I’m an picking up a life sign.” He said. “A survivor? Life signs are weak.”
Cat tried to listen more closely, “Where exactly is the life sign,” she asked quietly as she looked around with her light.
Checking the tricorder again, Leo nodded directly at the sound. "There, right where that sound came from."
Having followed the sounds, and nodding back to Giordano, Cat pulled the debris off the pile carefully, finally seeing someone moving. "Easy, we've got you. Leo, I need some help over here."
Going over to help, Giordano put his tricorder away and helped move the debris. Once the man was uncovered, he knelt down and pulled his tricorder back out. "We need to get him back to the Minotaur."
"Agreed. Is he safe to be moved out of here or do we need emergency beam out?" Cat put a hand on the man's shoulder and gave him a smile. "We're from Faltan Station, we'll get you out of here." She couldn't help but notice how much he looked like the Captain, but put it in the back of her mind for now. She hoped it was him.
"We can move him. I wouldn't want to transport around here anyways." He looked at his tricorder and then back towards the Observation Lounge. "I've got more. That room is in tact, should be able to get in there without issue."
Cat stood up and looked towards the other room. "Get him out of here." Grabbing her own tricorder, she saw the same readings and went towards the Observation Lounge door. Digging around for a manual release, she watched Leo helping the other man out of there before using the manual release.
On the other side of the door were the stunned faces of many of the enlisted members of the crew. They were beaten and bruised, trying to tend to each others injuries. She gave them a small smile. "Looks like you guys want to get out of here? Lieutenant Commander Tendai of Faltan Station. We've got the Minotaur in orbit ready to take any survivors back."
One of the ones inside who had an obvious head injury and broken arm came forward. "We don't know what went wrong. We kept finding people along the way and came here. We didn't know that our distress call got out."
"It did, and we got here as quickly as we could. Is this everyone?" Cat did a headcount, remembering how many should have been on the crew. Only counting two dozen, she frowned.
They looked at each other and many of them nodded. With a heavy sigh, she tapped her combadge. =^= Tendai to Minotaur. Mint, we've got two dozen plus one. The doctor is bringing the other one. We aren't going to find anymore, as they did their own search before we got here. We'll head out and to the beam up point.=^=
=^= Good job, Cat. Stay safe, let us know when you reach the beam up point, we're on standby. =^= Mint replied, giving Duffell a somewhat relieved look. Though hearing that only twenty-five of the crew survived made her heart sink.
Leading the others out, Cat helped one of them walk before getting back to where Turner and now Masters were. "Lets go. We'll have to send another team out to investigate later. We'll have a full house." She nodded the others down the corridor so they could get out. They continued on, finding their way out.
"Connor, will this stay stable enough for another team to come out later?"
When Cat had approached Connor, he was talking soothingly to the computer. Oddly, his words and tone resembled that of which one might talk to a lover. When Cat intruded, Connor immediately jumped. "You startled me!" He patted the computer comfortingly. "Oh, I think the we've reached an understanding. She's going to keep everything in this stable setting. IT is ticklish, but I think that she's got the ability to keep it up for a month or so." He stroked the console lovingly. "She's been such a good girl."
"Good, then let's get out of here. I'll make sure you're on the next mission," Cat said as she slightly rolled her eyes. "Help me get the rest of these people out."
"Next...next mission?" Connor stuttered in abject horror. "But, but, but, I'm a computer specialist.... I'm not... I'm not...." Recognizing that this "argument" was going to be pointless with his boss, he finally asked dejectedly, "What do you want me to do? How should I get them out?"
Cat rolled her eyes. "You don't know how to help some of those that are limping get out? And yes, next mission. We'll need to make sure things stay stable while teams work on digging this ship out."
"I'm not particularly strong," Connor whined. However, he relented. "I will do what I can."
One of the injured wrapped an arm around Connor so he could walk easier. "Thank you," he said softly as they started on their way out.
"Just like that, Connor," Cat said as she helped her own person out.
Connor was grateful that the person that he was assisting was male. He knew that he would be able to talk to him. "You're welcome, mate. Let's get you back to Faltan. I think we will all feel better there."
"We probably will," the man said as he winced, his very broken leg mostly dragging as they went.
Once everyone was outside, there was another headcount done. =^= Tendai to Minotaur, looks like were ready. Get us out of here. =^=
=^= Beaming you out now. =^= Mint nodded to Duffell and both women's hands flew over the consoles before them. They beamed up four at a time. The most critical they beamed directly to the sickbay, the rest came to the small transporter room. Mint helped clear the transporter padd and directed those who could walk toward the sickbay. The last ones to beam up were Connor, Cat, and Masters. "What's the status of the ship? Is she stable enough for us to leave her here and send a recovery crew later?"
Cat made sure the one she was helping got off to sickbay before looking over at Mint. "Turner says that he's got it stabilized for a month as long as nothing changes," she glanced to him, "at least I'm pretty sure that's what he said while talking to the computer down there."
"Alright, let's get back to the station, a plan to recover that ship or at least disable it permanently can be made there," Mint said, tiredness creeping into her voice. "First, we get everyone settled, though. I'm sure we're all exhausted."
Nodding, Cat looked to the others. “Go on, you heard the lady.” She then turned to Mint and made sure no one else could hear. “Go get some rest, I can get us back to Faltan. And don’t argue...”
Connor set himself back down at Ops, relieved that he survived the away mission. He hoped that Cat was not serious that he was coming back. This was enough of away teams to last a lifetime, regardless of whether the Medway's computer was cooperative in its dilapidated state or not.
Mint shook her head. "I'm good," she said giving Cat an appreciative smile. "I need to see this through. All hands are needed, I will sleep when we get back. Let's just make sure everyone's stable and as comfortable as possible."
"No, you need some sleep. Everyone will be settled, but you can't overdo it." Cat put a hand on Mint's shoulder. "Really, go on."
Mint frowned. She understood Cat's concern, but she knew she wouldn't be able to sleep. "I wouldn't be able to sleep if I tried," she said softly. "Too much adrenaline and worry. I appreciate your concern, but I will be fine." Before Cat could respond, Mint walked away, heading for the medical bay to check on the Medway crew.
Pinching the bridge of her nose, Cat followed to make sure everyone was comfortable for the trip back.
