Mission 2: Into The Breach
Location: Executive Officer's Office
Timeline: MD05 - 2100
Mint had been working on her report of the diplomatic meeting with the governor and Kincaid's breech of protocol with resulting punishments, when her door opened. She looked up to see a very haggard looking Harry. "How is Pete?" she asked, standing and moving around her desk. "Harry? Are you ok?"
"He's still in critical condition," Harry said softly, clearly exhausted by the day's events. "They're sending him back to Earth, we just don't have the capacity to fully care for him here. A medical ship will be here in the morning to transport him. Mint... I... I'm going with them. Paloma's beside herself, she needs me..."
"But... what about the station? You can't just leave, Harry..."
"I've already talked to Admiral Banda, congratulations Commander, you're now Commanding Officer of Faltan Station," Harry attempted a smile but it faltered half way when he saw the look on Mint's face. "I'm sorry Mint, I didn't want to do it this way, but Faltan needs a commanding officer and I don't know when I'll be back. I'm going to take a personal leave, go back to Earth, take care of Paloma and Junior, and then... I don't know. I don't know if I can continue running this station, therefore I'm stepping down."
"What about us? What about the baby?" Mint felt anger boiling in her veins and tears stinging her eyes. "You can't just walk away from us..."
"I won't! I'll be on Earth, yes, but I'll still keep in contact! I will be back to help raise the baby," Harry tried to wrap his arms around Mint, but she took a step away from him. "I just don't want to continue running the station, I'm getting to old for this. I think I may retire...come be a full time dad?"
"I... I don't know Harry, you're dropping this on me, talking to Banda without asking if I want to be commanding officer," Mint turned away from him, both hurt and furious with him. "Did you even take my feelings into consideration here?" She spun back around. "Did you even think about the baby before you decided all of this?"
Harry's mouth moved but he couldn't get any words to come out. He stood silently for a moment before letting out a sigh and hanging his head. "You're right Abigail, I didn't think, I just acted... I'm sorry... how can I make this up to you?"
"I don't know if you can Harry," she said flatly, probably overreacting to the situation, but she now had a lot to process. "I need time to think. Go be with your family, I'll come say goodbye to you and Paloma before you leave." And before he could answer, try to talk her into discussing things now, Mint walked around him and left her office.
