Mission 2: Into The Breach
Location: Romulan Neutral Zone, 8 light-years from Faltan
Timeline: MD09 - 0759
It had been a quiet night, like the last weeks. Commander Verek just entered the bridge to command the next watch personally. "Anything unusual?" the Commander asked, more out of a habit. It was clear that nothing unusual could have happened, otherwise they would have called him to the bridge. To him, sending a Valdore-Norexan on patrol duty was a waste of resources, but the admiralty probably knew why they wanted his ship here.
"No, sir," the lieutenant in command of the second watch reported.
Verek nodded and settled in the command chair. "Good, then let us get some action. Prepare for drill. I want this ship ready..."
"Sir, I am detecting a ship's signature," the tactical officer reported.
"Inside Romulan territory?" Verek asked.
"Just crossing the border."
"Intercept course," Verek ordered calmly.
Half an hour later, they were in visual range. The ship they intercepted was definitely a freighter.
"Signature?" Verek inquired.
"The... Tanara, sir. Registered on Faltan, sir."
"De-cloak, shields up, charge weapons!" Verek ordered. "Open hailing frequencies."
"Frequencies open, sir."
"Faltean freighter Tanara. This is the IRW D'Korin. You have no right to enter Romulan territory. Leave at once or face the consequences!"
"This is Captain Gecam Kizik of the freighter Tanara. We have a trade permit to enter this space and do our business with the Romulan Star Empire. Please lower your weapons" He stated calmly with an assuring face.
"Negative. The Tal Shiar has rated your government as 'terrorist supporters'. This automatically makes all citizens of Faltan suspects of terrorism. According to article one-hundred-forty-eight of the Romulan Home Defense Act, any suspicion of terrorism is considered an illegal immigrant. So again, leave at once or face the consequences." Verek looked sternly. Personally, he had nothing against Falteans, but the laws were the laws.
"Pardon me? We have not received any news of such regards that Falteans were marked as a terrorist? We got supplies for the colonies that we set a deal with. Supplies that medical aids them?!" The man replied with a plead.
"Now you are informed, Captain Kizik." Verek turned to his tactical officer. "Weapons lock."
Kizik shrugs as the channel got muted for a brief moment as he talked to his crew and frustration was easy to read on his face. He looked at the Romulan and nods as a voice came through again "We shall return to Faltan III, the apology for the inconvenience" The channel closed as the Captain gave a brief nod. The ship, now in view, started to change its course.
Verek smiled. This was his preferred outcome of the situation. No waste of ammunition, but a clear statement that one should not mess with the Romulan Star Empire. Without keeping his eyes off the screen he ordered "Unlock wea..." Green bolts left the IRW D'Korin's main disruptor cannons and hit the Tanara perfectly. The freighter blew up in a brilliant fire of explosions. Verek jumped off his chair and whirled around. "What..." he shouted, but did not say anything else when he saw his tactical officer standing a step away from the console and instead a female in a Tal Shiar uniform stood at the console and gently withdrew her fingers from it.
"They were terrorists," the Tal Shiar officer stated. "This is how we deal with terrorists. Continue your patrol, Commander." She looked at Verek for a moment before she left the bridge.
