Mission: Mission 3: Diplomacy, what’s that?
Location: Captain's Office

OOC: Did I forget anyone?

M'Mira paced her office as she received interesting news. Apparently, arriving today, as reinforcements, would be numerous crew members of the USS Kumari. She had no idea if they knew what a planetary base would be like compared to a starship, but it would be nice to have some individuals to help that were not new or incompetent. She stopped, as her tail swished pensively. Competent on a ship did not mean competent on a base. Well, only time will tell. At least they were battle tested.

However, she noted on the memo that she was getting a Chief Engineer. That caused her some pause. (OOC, I was tempted to type paws here for M'Mira! :) ) Immediately, she touched her commbadge and said, =^= Commanderrr Churrra, please rrreport to my office immediately. M'Mirrra out. =^=

Chura was overseeing the CnC as he was requested to join Commander M’Mira in her office. He passed his headset over to the next highest ranking officer before heading to the Commander’s Lounge.

When the Bolian arrived, M'Mira wasted no time in showing the memo to her Executive Officer. "Carrre to explain this?" she asked, her eyes narrowing with skepticism.

Ziq took the PADD and read the contents before shaking his head. “I had no idea, this is the first I’ve heard of it, ma’am. I know Kumari was badly damaged in a run in with the Romulans. I’m guessing Starfleet knew how short handed we were and decided to reassign some of their crew here.”

"Well, they should be herrre any moment. This should be a rrratherrr interrresting turrrn of events. I wonder what happened with the Kumarrri that they arrre herrre now. So much experience...."

“This says the ship took some structural damage and will take time to repair. Damaged frame would is a lengthy job, Commander.” Chura explained.

The chime rang and M'Mira responded in a purring voice, "Come in."

Kara looked at Tomer and offered a smile, she’d replicated a new maternity sized uniform as her last one was getting pretty snug on her bump. She was still getting used to the fit so she straightened it to look tidy before walking inside the Captain’s office amongst those transferring from the Kumari.

Briegel and Nealey arrived at the meeting together after conveniently bumping into eachother on the way there. It was yet another reassignment for both - but at least the two close friends would be able to continue serving together for the foreseeable future at least.

"Welcome to Faltan Station," the Caitian purred. "I am Commanderrr M'Mirrra. This fellow next to me is my executive officerrr, Ziq Churrra." She gave a toothy smile at the Bolian. "Would you please intrrroduce yourrrselves so I can get to know you?"

Chura stood beside Commander M’Mira with his hands behind his back and watched as the transferee’s filed into the office.

“Captain, Commander." Kara smiled warmly. “Lieutenant Kara Quinn-Chaim, I’m your new Chief Counsellor.” She nodded politely to the Bolian First Officer as she spoke.

“A pleasure, Lieutenant.” The Bolian replied with a broad smile.

"I'm Lieutenant Commander Briegel Foster - Chief Engineering Officer" Briegel said.

Nealey responded. "I'm Lieutenant Nealey Snowdon...the new security chief."

“Lieutenant Astrid Nilsson, engineering officer.” Astrid said quietly.

Now that Nealy had introduced herself, Tomer had no issue introducing himself. "And I am Lieutenant Tomer Chaim, your new Assistant Chief of Security."

M'Mira looked at Tomer and asked, "The Chief Counselor is yourrr wife, then? I am familiarrr with the human custom of name sharrring."

Tomer proudly looked at Kara and answered, "Indeed, she is my wife."

M'Mira nodded her approval. "I hope that you will have strrrong cubs. You will need it herrre," she told him. Turning to everyone, she replied, "We apprrreciate you coming herrre. I am sorrrrry forrr what happened to the Kumarrri but it is ourrr gain. Starrrfleet wants to close this base after I put in the harrrd worrrk to rrrestorrre it. I won't let that happen, norrrr will I let the Falteans bully us away. To sum up ourrr position, we need to make this station an essential part of the fleet. I am the fourrrth commanding officerrr herrre and we have been rrreopened less than a yearrr. To summarrrize our plight, the Falteans are a techologically similiarrr culture to us. They may even have morrre. Shorrtly afterrr we arrrrrived herrre, the old Goverrrnorrr was assassinated. One of ourrr weapons was found nearrrby. The new Goverrrnorrr has blamed us and anti-Starrrfleet sentiment is at an all time high. We arrre not perrrmitted in theirrr capital. On top of that, we have a rrreporrrterrr herrre, named Candy Templeton. She published some rrratherrr scathing storrry that caused ourrr firrrst Captain to ban herrr from doing herrr job. Many of the facts werrre trrrue, including that the then Captain impregnated his Executive Officerrr who then became the second CO. She left forrr rrreasons of herrr own and we had a new commanderrr. When he was herrre, the Crrrystal Frrruits, a top secrrret orrrganization attacked the 2XO, Chief of Engineerrrring and left herrr for dead in front of that commanderrr. They arrre both gone now. I tell you this because if you wish to trrransferrr, the time is now. This is not a safe place. I will answerrr whateverrr questions you might have."

"As silly a question as this might sound Captain, given what you just said." Kara looked at her new CO and XO. "We have our baby to think about, is this station a protected enough environment in which to raise my baby?"

The Caitian’s tail swished from side to side uncomfortably. Rogue Romulans had infiltrated before. There was still no official explanation of why a Klingon ship crashed into the Faltan base port. The Crystal Fruits attack had occurred. But since she took over, there were no problems. Finally she decided, “This base has not had any issues since I came to command. With you all herrre, I can state that we shall be betterrr prrrotected.”

Nealey rested her hands on her bump as she listened to the Caitian speak. She knew the risks of being here - of course she did - and she was satisfied that it was a safe place for Marley, Keziah and the baby to live. In fact Nealey's job was to keep everyone on the station safe - although as she was due to give birth imminently it was likely a job which her deputy would be overseeing for the foreseeable future.

"I'll begin a training programme for the Security department over the next couple of days. There's quite a few people who aren't familiar with the layout so rectifying that is at the top of my to-do list" Nealey said.

Briegel sat and listened as the briefing progressed. For the time being at least she didn't have any questions to ask.

“There are armed security around the station 24/7. There has been problems with the locals in the past but as the Commander stated that was a while ago. They are mainly there as a deterrent against anyone thinking about doing anything against this installation. You will be safe.” Chura said to the gathered officers.

Kara nodded offering a relieved smile. She was satisfied with the answer she'd be given. Besides her own husband was the Assistant Chief of Security and she had total faith in Tomer to protect her and their child.

"Is it a full complement of security personnel though?" Briegel asked.

Chura nodded, “It’s one of the few departments which is fully staffed due to the nature of cohabiting with the Falteans.”

M'Mira nodded. "And now with an exceptionally experrrienced Chief and battle tested Assistant Chief, I am confident in our securrrity." Her tail swished uncertainly. "Besides, we also have ourrr Chief of Intelligence, Shannon Cosanitorrr, who should be able to assist with the outside issues. I would suggest that you new securrrity folks check in with herrr at some point afterrr you have settled in. Therrre also is the mining colony on Luna. Churrra will be heading therrre soon. Perrrhaps, he will take some of you to meet them up therrre."

“I will contact those separately who I choose to come up to Luna.” Chura said with a nod.

"Good," replied M'Mira. "In the meantime, does anyone have morrre questions for us?" she asked, her tail swishing lazily behind her. "Orrr should I let you all go to get set up and comforrrtable?"

Kara looked at Tomer and smiled then back at their new CO. "No more questions from me Commander."

"Nothing from me" Briegel said.

Nealey shook her head in response to the Caitian's question.

Nilsson simply shook her head before looking down at the ground. She wasn’t sure how she was feeling about this new assignment at the moment.

Hearing nothing further, M'Mira simply told everyone, "Dismissed."

Kara looked to Tomer, she was ready to get settled in aboard the station. Right now she wanted to take the weight off her feet, so heading to their quarters was on her list of things to do first.

Tomer took Kara by the hand and led her away from the Commander's office.

Chura watched as the transferee’s began to file out of the Commander’s office. He waited until they’d all left before turning to his Caitian Commanding Officer, “I think that went well. Looks like we’ve gained a lot of experienced personnel.”

"Verrry forrrtunate indeed. We may be able to save this station yet," she told the Bolian with a glint in her eyes.

“It didn’t need saving, ma’am, just a new lease of life.” The Bolian replied with a grin. “If there’s nothing else I’ll get back to my duties.”

"Please," she said with a satisfied purr. Things were definitely looking up for her and Faltan.
