Mission:
Mission 1: The Return to Faltan
Location: USS Minotaur, Sickbay
Timeline: MD04 - 1630
Mint strode into the Sickbay purposefully. She nearly stopped when she saw Refelian on the biobed, Aereen standing over him working whatever magic she could. But she pressed on, coming to a stop nearby though out of the way. "How is he, Doctor?"
Aereen looked up from where she was reviewing the Captain's readings. "Stable, the bullet penetrated his spinal cord, severed the subclavian artery. Due to the neurological damage i've put him in a medical induced coma."
'Penetrated his spinal cord...neurological damage...' Mint blanched slightly as she repeated those words in her head. "What's the prognosis at this point? I know it may be too early to tell, but... well... can you fix his spinal cord, the neurological damage... or will he be paralized?"
"We've actually repaired the damage already, it didn't sever the cord so we were able to repair it." Calista started. "We can't say for sure what the neurological will be he's awake but it's promising that he will make a full recovery."
"Thank you," Mint sighed in relief. "I know this may come off as a strange request, but I would like to keep his medical status under wraps. I want to keep the Faltans from knowing that he could make a full recovery, to see what the person or people who did this will do next. I will alert the crew that he's been shot, and that while stable, he's still in critical condition, that his status could go either way. Are you on board with this?"
"Other than to his commanding officer or next of kin it is not my place to discuss a patients medical status. You would be the exception as his CO is not present and you are now the relevant command officer. What you choose to share with the locals and crew is your choice Commander." Calista replied.
"Thank you," Mint gave a slight nod. "I know it's an odd situation, but I really want to protect him from further attack." She rubbed at her shoulder which was now starting to throb. "Erm... Doc... I hate to add to your pile of work, but would I be able to get my shoulder looked at... I think I may have pulled something trying to catch Captain Refelian. It's starting to really hurt..."
"Grab a seat", Calista said gesturing to the only empty bio bed left in the small sickbay.
Mint moved over to the bio bed and pulled herself onto it, making sure not to use her injured shoulder. "Thanks Doc," she gave a weak smile.
Grabbing a tricorder she began to scan the woman's shoulder, "Looks like you strained the Infraspinatus, or at least the half orion half human version of the Infraspinatus." The Doctor said grabbing a hypo, "This should help with the pain, take it easy on it for a couple days, deep slow stretching and if it's still bothering you in a couple days let me know and I'll refer you to our physical therapist."
"Whatever that is," Mint chuckled as the medical term went over her head. "As I have a station to run, I'll probably be a desk jockey for a while anyway. No more getting dirty in engineering land for this gal until this situation is cleared up. I will add deep stretches to my nightly routine. Thank you, Doctor, I appreciate all you're doing, not only for me, but for Captain Refelian too."
"I have no idea how long we will need to keep him in a coma, we'll be keeping him here aboard the Minotaur for the time being. It's facilities are better than the stations at the moment and security is tighter. Lieutenant Damon has posted extra security to sickbay, and I will be monitoring his condition personally. It's up to him and his body's ability to heal now." She said solemnly.
Mint nodded. "Please, keep me updated," she sounded like she was on the verge of tears. "No matter the time, I want to be alerted when you wake him up." She slid off the bio bed and sighed. "For now, I must do what no Executive Officer really wants to do, assume command while he's here, and I have several meetings and announcements to make. Thank you again, Doctor."
Calista nodded and then returned to check up on the Captain.
Mint watched Aereen move back to Refelian. She said a silent prayer that Refelian would be back on his feet soon, or at least mentally capable to assist her in working out what she should be doing with the Faltan's. After a moment of watching the Doctor work, she made her way out of the sickbay and back to the Captain's office.
