Mission: Mission 2: Into The Breach
Location: Medical Hub, Faltan Station
Timeline: MD03 - 0730

Mint sheepishly entered the medical ward and looked around. She was hoping to find Dr. Aereen and talk to her in private. She didn't want anyone else who could be there to hear what she had to say. When she didn't see her right away, she flagged down a nurse. "Excuse me, I'm looking for Doctor Aereen, is she in this morning?"

"Third floor, outpatient ward." A Nurse said in the middle of wrestling a large crate of supplies into a storage closet.

"Thank you," Mint nodded. She felt bad about walking away from the nurse without offering help, but she had a time crunch. She needed to speak with Aereen and then get to the flight control center before the VIPs started arriving. She made her way up to the third floor and walked into the outpatient ward.

Aereen was sitting at the desk in the middle of the outpatient ward. Despite a rather nice office up a level she had taken over the large common area and was reviewing the latest personnel reports. "Mint." She said with a smile seeing the half Orion officer entering the ward. "Please state the nature of the medical emergency." She added with a smirk.

"I didn't know we had such a lovely EMH," Mint teased. "No emergency, but I was hoping to speak with you... in private?" She glanced around the room, and seemed nervous, which was quite out of character for her.

Aereen nodded and lead Mint into one of the private exam rooms that lines the far wall of the ward. "What seems to be causing you concern?" She asked gesutring to the exam table while she took a seat on the stool.

"I..." Mint paused as she hopped up on the bed. "I've been feeling off this past week and wanted to get checked out. I've been really tired, getting strange headaches, and now I'm nauseous a lot, M'Mira says I smell different," she kind of giggled at the last bit. "Strange, I know, but being half Orion I know I have a smell she can pick up on," she shrugged, her stomach starting to churn. "And, I was getting really emotional for no reason last night..." Then as though a light went off in her head, she gave Aereen a wide eyed, scared look... "Am I...p-pregnant?!?"

"Well, we should be able to determine that. I'd assume since you are considering it the prerequisite activities occurred. Orions generally are a very fertile race, with a substantially larger ovulation window than most humanoids. While hybrids like yourself aren't super common from what Starfleet Medical has seen there appears to be very little detrimental effects on your reproductive potential from your joint heritage." Aereen said, she tapped a few commands into the terminal. "If you'd please lay down on your back."

With her heart in her throat, Mint laid back on the biobed and stared at the ceiling. Her mind was racing, trying to figure out how this had happened. Then she remembered her comments to Harry the day before, the last week was a blurr. Could she have missed her birth control? She swallowed hard and made a mental reminder to check her supply when she got back to her quarters.

Aereen swung the crossarm out from the side of the biobed and positioned it over Mint's midsection. "We'll start with some scans, and while they're taking place I'll run a basic blood test." She said moving on to prepare a hypospray to draw a sample.

Nodding, Mint held still while the scan and the blood draw. She felt like she was holding her breath while waiting for the results. Thoughts swam through her head, the most prominent being, 'How am I going to tell Harry?'.

Aereen took the vial out of the hypo, inserted into the analyzer. A few moments later, results scrawled across the screen. She then turned her attention to the scan arm, adjusted it slightly, and hit a few commands. "Well, I have some news. You're pregnant."

Releasing the breath she was holding in a long exhale, Mint nodded. Tears welled in her eyes and she gave a weak smile to Aereen. "Wow... I don't know how I feel about this... happy, but scared, worried... nervous," she wiped the tears away. "This...this chnages a lot...w-what now?"

"I'm going to prescribe some prenatal vitamins. As Orions gestate quite quickly compared to humans I can't be certain exactly how long it will take you to come to term, the medical files indicate we're looking at about 7 months, you're about 10 days pregnant." Aereen said. "I'd like you to come in for weekly check ups, and while I'm not putting you on restricted duty I can't understate how harmful it could be to take a phaser hit or something along those lines. So I expect you to adjust your duties accordingly."

Taking a few deep breaths, Mint calmed herself somewhat and smiled at Aereen. "Well, as Executive Officer, I shouldn't be in the line of fire for phasers, but I will do my best to not take any hits," she laughed and sat up, carefully. "Weekly checkups, I can do, but you might have to remind me, there's so much going on lately that I may forget." She put her hands over her abdomen and shook her head. "I don't know how to tell him... this isn't something I expected," she chuckled nervously. "But this is what I get for missing my birth control, right?" She chewed her lip for a moment. "Thanks Doc. I guess we'll learn what a Human-Orion pregnancy is like together?"

"There is one last question, I don't mean to pry but knowing who the father is could assist. I would like to run a genetic screening between yourself and the father, it could show any possible genetic issues that could arise. With things like that the sooner we know the more likely we can treat them with as little invasiveness as possible." Aereen said.

"Ooooh...." Mint's eyes went wide. "You won't talk to him yet, right?" She chewed her lip again. "I..." she sighed and shook her head. "Harry Refelian," the words were barely above a whisper and she started turning a light shade of brown as she began to flush.

"Of course, but once you have a chance to speak to him I will need his consent to run the tests. In the meantime I will run some additional tests on the samples I have taken from you." Aereen said.

"I will let him know to come see you when I talk to him," Mint frowned slightly. "Do you need me here to give consent to talk to him about this?"

"No as long as I know you know I will be talking to him once you have informed him it would fall to him to consent or not to the tests." Aereen replied.

"Alright," Mint slid off the bed and stood there for a second. "I guess I better go talk to him," she smiled weakly. "I'll come back and see you in a week." She started heading for the door, but stopped just short of opening it. "Thanks Doc." She added before stepping out and heading out of the ward.

The CMO nodded, looked like she might need to request a pediatrician in the next batch of personnel requests.
