845 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Mission 3: Diplomacy, what’s that?
Location: Aeryn Jameson Office

Oliver waited outside Commander Jameson's office with two raktajinos. He used a elbow to push the com.

Aeryn was sitting at her desk reading through a big pile of PADDs that had been sitting there when she arrived. It seemed the last XO had left her with a lot of reports to catch up on, but at least it meant she knew what was going on previously from the standpoint of the reports. She looked up as the door chime rang. "Come in."

As the door swooshed open Oliver stepped inside.

Looking up she smiled a bigger smile as a familiar face greeted her. "Lieutenant Radrick! Welcome to my office, come on in and make yourself at home."

"Thank you Commander " he proceeded to have a seat placing the two raktajinos down in front of him.

Oliver brought both drinks for himself without realizing how rude it might appear having not offered one to the Commander. Oliver always drank two raktajinos in the morning and thought it was more effeciant to grab two at the same time rather then drinking one and having to return to a replicator for the other.

"Commander here is my report on the current transporter status." he pulled the pad from the hip tricorder pocket of his uniform. "You will find that I have requested six ensigns that I have selected to be transferred are from engineering. I was going to clear it with the chief engineer but she is currently on the away mission and I need them now if possible." Oliver sipped from his drink and looked directly at the commander. The pad also contained a list of supplies that required extra power diverted to the replicators to produce. It also asked for certain decks powers to be reduced as the additional transporter pads were installed.

Aeryn read through the PADD and Oliver's requests. "Six crew transfers from Engineering, that's a lot to ask. I'll meet you part way on that, choose two as permanent transfers and I'll have the other four join you until the transporter updates are done. If you're short staffed after that I'll request extra Ops personnel from Starfleet. If you need someone to get stuck in at a push, give me a call and I'll come down and help. I'm a fully qualified Ops officer."

"Perfect thank you". Oliver felt this was an amazing start so far as he finished off his first cup. "Thank you for your time Commander and your efficiency." Oliver stood and grabbed his mugs.

"Going already?" Aeryn grinned. "Tell me Oliver when do you find time for yourself?" She gave him a knowing look. "I've met workaholics before, in the long run it doesn't do you any good in the long run. I'll be expecting you to take your regulation breaks and rest periods."

"Of course I would never violate protocal" Oliver would always follow protocal but had ways of manipulating the rules. Yesterday to skip the breaks to finish the reports by morning, he listed the transporter malfunctions as critical damage which allows the Chief of the operation to extend working hours, even though if reviewed he would have a hard time justifying the status listing.

"I am actually going on break after this meeting. I over heard while fixing some systems in the commons that there are some sort of Christmas activities happening. " he looked at her then remembered she's not human. "It's an earth tradition but they celebrate with a wonderful drink known as Hot Coco and peppermint sticks." he could taste the pepper mint just talking about it.

Aeryn nodded. "Believe it or not I actually love Christmas!" She relaxed back in her seat. "It's one of my favourite Human holidays!! There's just something about decorations and the giving of presents that I love. Speaking of which I think it would be fun to decorate the main promenade area around here."

"This is a great idea." Oliver was most excited about the engineering of it all. "How did you think it should be done." Before she could answer he was already spilling ideas.

"I can install holo graphic emitters for the lights so no one can trip on them and it would easily pass a safety security check while draining minimal power." Oliver smirked at the idea.

Aeryn grinned. "I love your enthusiasm! If you have the time then go for it, but your main duties come first Lieutenant. I'd rather not have the Commander breathing down my neck!"

"Of course." he quickly turned to leave. Then looked back. "Merry Christmas Aeryn" now he was off duty and wanted to show her he did not forget.

"Merry Christmas to you too Oliver" Aeryn smiled warmly. "Oh before you go, I've listed you as transporter Chief for the USS Minotaur, should the occasion come when we need to use her."

"I look forward to serving aboard the Minotaur." Oliver turned and exited.

Aeryn smiled. When Oliver made up his mind to go he didn't hang around. With that she got back yo reading reports.
