Mission 1: The Return to Faltan
Location: Faltan Government Building
Timeline: MD05 - 0700 Hours
Deputy Governor Dreyem Taga walked the halls of the grand Government Building with a cup of steaming and freshly brewed Raeya tea, which she had grown to like on a recent diplomatic trip to the speak with Raeya Government.
The morning had gone well so far. She always found a chill in the air when she left for work made the day go well. She arrived at the Government Building early as she had a busy day ahead. More communications from Raeya and Union which meant things were progressing well for her. She had picked up her messages and made her way to her office to open the her window to let the fresh smelling air refresh her office.
After the events of the day before with the Starfleet Captain getting shot in the Governor’s office. Dreyem hopes for a quieter day as she approached the Governors office. She’s wondered if the Governor had drunk himself to sleep in his office or if he had actually managed to stagger his way home. She had noticed he had turned to drink more and more over the last couple of months.
She arrived at his door and knocked a couple of times. No answer. Again she knocked. Same again. She opened the door, first she saw the smoke coming from the fire place. ‘Must have burnt itself out.’ She thought as she slowly continued into the office. Then she spotted the Governor, slumped in his chair. A bad burning is temple and a Starfleet phaser on the floor, a smile began to grow on her face but she controlled herself for a moment and let the shock wash over her.
“Guards!” She shrieked at the top of her voice. “Guards!” She screamed hysterically as she dropped her cup of tea in ‘shock’.
Three hours had gone by since the Governor has been found. Chief of Armed Services Dintu Rhize had brought in his best and brightest to examine the area, take evidence and examine the security footage from both inside and outside the Government Building.
“We have concluded that the assailant must have come through the boarded up window. No one had been in or out of the Governor’s since you, Deputy.” Rhize explained.
“And I can assure you, he was very much alive when I saw him last night.” Taga added reassuringly.
“We have footage from outside the building showing a female, we presume from the body size, about 1.8 meters tall, fleeing the scene dressed in dark clothing but as yet we don’t have any other footage of her movements.” Rhize said continuing his briefing. “My people had confirmed the weapon used is a current model Starfleet hand phaser set to stun. The stun setting at close range can still be deadly.”
“Why was it left behind?” Taga asked.
“Our assumption is, the killer was disturbed and dropped it on there escape.” Rhize replied, keeping his tone professional at all times.
“Well, the Doctor who examined the Governor’s body concluded that the cause of death was the weapon being discharged at the temple.” Kaiho said. “He died almost instantly.”
“Deputy, only a handful of people knew about the shooting of the Starfleet Captain and knew about the window being boarded up. This must be an attack against us by Starfleet, a revenge killing.” Sirdith the Chief of Diplomatic services said.
Taga nodded, “I agree but we must tread carefully. Firstly, an announcement must be made to the people about the Governor’s death. I will take temporary charge until a vote for a new leader can take place, we should start gathering...”
“Forgive me, Deputy.” Rhize said interrupting Taga. “I think the Governing Council should invoke the tenth composition.”
The Deputy gave the Armed Service Chief a warm smile. “Thank you, but I need everyone’s support in such a case and I can’t ask for that it doesn’t seem right.” The Deputy said.
Sirdith looked at the gathered Governing Council who all nodded their approval. “It seems you have it. Note this in our history books that the Governing Council has invoked the tenth composition. Effective immediately, Dreyem Taga is now the Governor of our people.”
Dreyem looked around the room speechless for a moment. “I’m touched that you think I can lead our people forward during this very difficult time. Of course, I take this honour in the hope of being able to get us through this difficult time. Please, go back to work and await the announcement. We will convene again tomorrow to discuss a way forward. I’ll also contact the Starfleet base and demand an explanation.”
The Governing Council nodded and began to file out. Once the door to the former Deputy’s Office her solemn look grew into a smirk. Now she had the power. Now was the time to act...
