Mission:
Mission 1: The Return to Faltan
Location: Captain’s Lounge, Command Deck, Faltan Station
Timeline: MD06 - 1100
To say Mint was relieved when she heard a Chief Engineering Officer had finally been sent to them was an understatement. While she thoroughly enjoyed working with her hands and getting dirty, her other duties had been taking precedence and Engineering was being neglected. They'd made great progress before Refelian had been shot, but the station still needed a ton of work. Once she learned a name, she sent a message to Lieutenant Tendai requesting her immediate presence in the Captain's lounge.
Catrina had known that she had her work cut out for her. There were a multitude of reports that she was sent on her way out to Faltan, and then a stack on the desk in her quarters when she got there. But the first thing was a message from the Executive Officer asking to meet her in the Captain's lounge. Unfortunately, she got lost a few times on her way around, mostly because after the reports, she didn't have time to study the layout.
When the doors opened, Mint stood and gave the woman a warm smile. "Lieutenant Tendai! Welcome to Faltan Station," she waved the woman into the room as she walked around the desk and toward the younger woman. "There is much to discuss, and unfortunately much to do, so I'll try to make this quick," she held out her hand, "I am Commander Abigail Prescott, Executive Officer, and Acting Chief Engineer, and Acting Commanding Officer. Not to seem ungrateful, but I'm glad to have you here to take one of those titles away."
Extending her own hand, Cat gave a smile. "Lieutenant Catrina Tendai, but everyone calls me Cat. And, unless something changed on my flight out here, you'll be able to drop the Acting Chief Engineer title." She held up a PADD she'd brought with her. "A lot of this stuff I couldn't even make sense of, but it didn't come in order, so that might be part of it. Maybe you'll be able to help clear some of it up."
"I hope I will, but to be honest, this place is a mess right now," Mint rubbed the back of her neck and sighed. "So, what would you like me to attempt to clear up?"
Letting out a heavy sigh, Cat realized she wasn't even sure. "I guess I don't even really know what all happened here. Some basics maybe. I know I've got my work cut out for me, especially as my first job as a department chief. Frankly, at this point, I don't even know where to start."
"Well, the biggest thing to start with is fixing power relays. They've been giving us trouble since we got here and I'm now suspecting foul play." Mint moved around Refelian's desk and picked up a PADD. She called up a map of the station and pointed out a few things. "Also, the Romulan Embassy's building site was attacked yesterday resulting in several explosions. I have teams checking nearby structures for damage and collecting debris as evidence." She showed Cat the map and then realized she should probably explain things from the beginning.
"Err... right, this will probably not make much sense, it still doesn't to me and I've been living these events. But I will go from the top. We arrived here and began searching for the missing administrative team, with no luck. Captain Refelian, who is currently in sickbay on the Minotaur hopefully healing from his injuries, decided we should play nice with the locals and meet with their governing body," Mint walked back around the desk, holding the PADD. "While we were there, someone shot Captain Refelian. The next day, I learned that someone assassinated the Governor of Faltan, then the embassy was attacked. We don't know why or what is going on. But as you can see, the engineering side of my duties was neglected."
She called up an overlay of the station map. "The red areas are still without power because of the relay issue," she pointed. "The grey areas have power but haven't been fully restored, and the green have been restored. I have a deck by deck mapping made up of each building as well. The Command Hub is finished, the Medical hub still needs quite a bit of work, Engineering and Ops is functional, but probably needs more work, and the Strat Ops, Intelligence and JAG hub is nominally done, but mostly a work in progress. Commercial hub is set up to a degree, and crew quarters have been completed. My quarters haven't been touched, but those can wait. I'm fine with living in my office, or currently in Captain Refelian's. I've had a team begin work on Refelian's in order to give him a place to go if and when he's released from medical. Oh and the Marines are taking care of their own area," she paused and looked to Cat, hoping she hadn't lost the woman in all of that. "And Lieutenant Commander M'Mira has been an amazing help, she'll likely assist you in taking over Engineering as well. I may be somewhat busy, but my door is always open if you have questions."
Watching all of the displays and taking in all of the information, Catrina kept a check list in her head. She had wondered why Refelian hadn't been the one to welcome her, at least now she knew. "Living in an office, have a feeling I'll be doing that rather than the place my things were delivered to for quite a while. Not that I'd likely be getting much sleep as it is." She picked up her PADD and looked over the list she'd already had on there. "So..we need a priority area and then work our way through from there. I agree on getting the Captain's quarters ready for a place to recover." She tapped a few things into the PADD. "I read up on M'Mira on my way here, I think she'll be a great help as well."
Finally setting the PADD down for a moment, she looked over to Prescott. "I know I should probably choose, but seeing as you've been here longer, where would you suggest I get started?"
"Priority should be the Intelligence and JAG offices. We need both of them fully operational if we're going to get anywhere with this investigation," Mint didn't need time to think about that, she'd been dwelling on it for the last hour as she prepared to meet Tendai. "As for your office, I think you'll find it up to spec, I have used it a bit, but cleaned it thoroughly when I heard you were coming. Not quite as grand as this, but it's still comfortable should you end up living in it. Also, I'm sorry you're being thrown in straight away. I had hoped you would arrive sooner, but it is what it is."
"Oh, it isn't a problem. I relaxed enough on my way here. Intel and JAG offices it is. I think I'll need that map for a bit, find my way around and such. But I'm ready to get to work."
"Not a problem," Mint held out the PADD for her to take. "Keep it, I've got my own copy on my desk computer. Is there anything else you need before you jump into it?"
Taking the map, Cat shook her head. "I think I can handle it from here. Think my office will be my bedroom for a while." She gave a smile. "Thank you for everything, even if it was just a quick rundown."
"You're welcome, and feel free to stop by any time," Mint smiled. "I wouldn't mind talking repairs and machine guts, especially now that I'm stuck talking with diplomats, investigators, and JAG about shootings and explosions..."
Smirking, Catrina was glad she wasn't in that position. Activating the map, she headed out, stopping one place before she went off to her office.
